About The Position

Santé is the #1 operating system for local retailers, providing a platform that runs the entire store, including point of sale, integrated payments, eCommerce, inventory management, delivery-app integrations, marketing, bookkeeping, and AI Agents. The company aims to equip local stores with technology comparable to national retailers, featuring AI agents for inventory management and promotion creation. They emphasize a fast-paced environment with daily shipping and the integration of AI-assisted engineering tools like Devin, Claude, and Codex into the daily workflow. The Money Movement team at Santé is responsible for all aspects of the company that handle money post-sale, including Payroll, Banking, and Lending. Their current focus is on the accounting backbone for merchants, such as QuickBooks sync for invoices, bills, COGS journal entries, and sales mappings, as well as the ledgers for loyalty programs, gift cards, and deposits. The team's future roadmap includes developing payroll services for merchants with hourly staff across multiple locations, enabling them to pay employees from the same system that manages store operations.

Requirements

5+ years building production backend systems, ideally in TypeScript/Node, or demonstrating correct, reviewable code in any language.
Practical fluency with transactional guarantees: idempotency, atomicity, retry semantics, and handling duplicate webhooks.
Real depth in PostgreSQL, including schema design for auditability, handling transactions under concurrency, and optimizing queries for growing ledgers.
An instinct for the details of money handling: reconciliation, rounding, and precise tax rate application.
A bias for root cause analysis over patching, with a track record of converting one-off incidents into eliminated bug classes.
Comfort operating with high ownership in a small team where decisions set standards.

Nice To Haves

Experience with payroll, banking, ledger, or other financial systems with an auditable data model.
Experience with accounting integrations (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero), payment processors, or ACH rails.
Familiarity with the tech stack: Next.js, tRPC, Prisma, Vercel, ElastiCache, RDS/RDS Proxy.
Experience directing AI coding agents (Devin, Claude Code, Cursor) and building safety guardrails for them at scale.
Retail or POS domain experience, particularly with multi-location operations or cash reconciliation.
History of establishing technical standards or architectural principles adopted across teams.

Responsibilities

Build Santé's payroll product from the ground up, including earnings computation from shift data, tax withholding, payment execution, and filings integrations.
Develop Santé’s bill pay product to allow customers to pay suppliers with one-click handling of accounts payable directly within the platform.
Embed bank accounts directly into the OS to provide customers with access to their card processing revenues in minutes.
Own and harden accounting integrations (e.g., QuickBooks), ensuring merchant books balance at month-end.
Design and maintain ledgers for loyalty programs, gift cards, and deposits, ensuring correctness, idempotency, and auditability under concurrent writes.
Establish financial-correctness patterns (double-entry ledgers, idempotency keys, reconciliation jobs, timezone cutoffs) for adoption by other engineering teams.
Utilize AI agents (Devin, Claude Code, Cursor) for code generation, review, and productionization, implementing necessary guardrails for money-touching code.
