About The Position

Portage Learning is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in C# and .NET to build performant, scalable, and secure microservices. The engineer will design, build, and maintain enterprise applications and microservices; modernize legacy systems; and collaborate with project management, cross-functional engineering teams, technical leads, and business stakeholders. The role also includes mentoring junior and mid-level engineers. The position is full-time and reports to Senior Software Engineering. It is not remote. Portage Learning typically operates Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with employee schedules varying within those hours. Staff must attend required meetings and training at the office in Chippewa Township, Pennsylvania. The job may involve occasional travel outside the office, primarily local during the business day, sometimes with overnight stays; weekend travel may occur occasionally. Requirements

Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science or a related field; a related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirement.
Five years of industry experience required.
Strong, proven experience with C#, .NET, ASP.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React or Angular.
Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs, JSON integrations, and API versioning and compatibility standards.
Deep understanding of object-oriented programming and SOLID design principles.
Hands-on experience with microservices and event-driven architectures, such as messaging queues or cloud buses.
Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design concepts.
Proficiency in SQL database tuning, indexing strategies, stored procedures, and data modeling.
Applied knowledge of application security practices, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, role-based access control, and data encryption standards.
Track record of leading feature implementation and mentoring junior team members.
Successful completion of a background check and current or ability to obtain Child Abuse, State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting clearances.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deploy enterprise-level RESTful Web APIs, microservices, and applications using C# and the modern .NET ecosystem.
Follow and promote engineering best practices, SOLID principles, design patterns, and secure coding standards.
Contribute to system modernization, including refactoring and migrating legacy code to modern .NET platforms.
Write efficient, high-performing code and participate in database schema design, query optimization, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting.
Write technical design documentation, participate in architecture and design reviews, and conduct code reviews.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and support their technical growth.
Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term stability fixes.
Work with project management, engineering leads, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
