Senior Software Engineer II

Samsara
•$130,900 - $260,000•Remote

About The Position

Samsara is hiring a product-minded senior engineer for its Commercial Navigation team. The team builds navigation in the Samsara Driver app and supporting products, including on-road mobile guidance, session review for fleet managers, fuel-aware routing, and safety improvements. The work combines real-time data, user experience, and coordination across the platform, including challenges such as poor connectivity, changing schedules, and dynamic routes. The engineer will own ambiguous customer problems end to end and contribute across mobile, backend services, and web as needed. This includes taking features from design through production rollout and following up on quality, adoption, and customer impact. The role is remote for candidates residing in the United States or Canada. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 6 years of experience.
  • Proven experience shipping customer-facing software in production across multiple surfaces, such as mobile, web, and/or backend services, with depth in at least one and the ability to contribute effectively in the others.
  • Comfort using AI development tools with judgment in day-to-day engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building mobile applications, including React Native; Samsara also uses Swift and Kotlin for native modules and in-cab experiences.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining features over several years, demonstrating long-term ownership.
  • Expertise in logistics or industrial IoT, especially building mobile apps for drivers or field workers, or familiarity with geospatial or mapping technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Own navigation initiatives from design through production rollout, including follow-up on quality, adoption, and customer impact.
  • Write maintainable, well-tested code and uphold high standards in design and code review.
  • Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted workflows, with sound judgment.
  • Improve observability, testing, and systems that support reliable navigation in production.
  • Design and ship features across mobile, backend services, and web, including driver navigation, administrative visibility, optimized routing, and safety-focused capabilities.
  • Clarify product goals by learning from fleet managers and drivers, aligning with product teams on priorities, defining success metrics, planning milestones, and raising risks and tradeoffs.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and partners in Maps, Telematics, and adjacent teams.
  • Champion and model Samsara's cultural principles: Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, and Win as a Team.

Benefits

  • Initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance, subject to plan terms and conditions.
  • Compensation may include performance-based bonus or variable pay and equity for eligible roles.
  • Professional development stipend.
  • Comprehensive health and parental leave plans.
  • Flexible, employee-led remote work model.
