Senior Software Engineer II

Invoca•Los Angeles, CA
•$139,000 - $208,000

About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer II will join Invoca’s Integrations team, which connects the company’s AI agents to customer systems such as CRMs, advertising platforms, contact centers, healthcare systems, and the web. The team owns vendor connectors and MCP servers, webhooks, Google Ads, the web widget, and production monitoring. Current work includes Google Local Services Ads, customer MCP connectors with evaluations, event ingestion, web actions for voice and SMS, and voice agents operating in customers’ contact centers. The engineer will work with Ruby on Rails and TypeScript, share on-call responsibilities for real customer traffic, and use AI agents to write and review code. The role owns meaningful roadmap work end to end, from design and implementation through production operation and verification of customer or business outcomes. It also involves shaping how AI is used safely in development and in customer-facing products, including human review, evaluations, monitoring, and tracing. The role calls for a product-minded engineer who can work across the stack, make pragmatic technical decisions, understand customer needs, collaborate across teams, and improve the team’s engineering system. Success includes shipping AI-powered features and integrations used in production, building useful developer tooling or AI agents, and contributing to production reliability and team effectiveness.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with measurable impact in production environments.
  • At least one year of actively using AI tools and agents to write production code as a core part of the daily workflow.
  • Experience shipping customer-facing AI-powered product features to real users, including work with non-deterministic outputs, evaluations, latency, and debugging unexpected model behavior.
  • Experience building skills, agents, or developer tooling that made a team faster.
  • Sound judgment about when AI can operate independently and when human review is required before production.
  • A product-engineering mindset: ability to clarify open-ended problems using customer data and product partners, then ship solutions to real customer problems.
  • Comfort working across the stack, with depth in areas relevant to the team.
  • An eagerness to automate and use AI to offload work.
  • Strong technical judgment and a preference for simplicity and adoption over theoretical completeness.
  • Ability to connect technical work to customer and business outcomes and communicate that connection clearly.
  • Experience shipping and operating a third-party integration, including OAuth, webhooks, vendor APIs, retries, idempotency, and detecting failures before customers report them.
  • Experience building or operating an MCP server or another tool-calling integration used by an agent with real customers, including separating customer credentials and data and checking that tool calls were correct.
  • Direct, kind communication and willingness to give and receive feedback.
  • High agency, ownership of outcomes, and willingness to act on reversible decisions without waiting for permission.
  • Ability to raise quality standards, ask questions, dissent, and contribute to a psychologically safe team.
  • Ability to work with intensity, deliver early versions for feedback, flag risks early, and finish work.
  • Ability to understand the underlying goal behind requests before responding.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RAG, evaluations, agentic products, chatbots, conversational bots, and evaluating or improving AI agents using monitoring, tracing, and simulation data.
  • Experience building MCP tools, agentic pipelines, background jobs, asynchronous processing such as Kafka, or third-party integrations.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript or JavaScript, or MySQL.

Responsibilities

  • Own projects or major project components from scoping through shipping, and verify that they achieve their intended outcomes.
  • Identify and resolve dependencies and conflicts across systems and teams.
  • Define and maintain quality standards for owned work.
  • Own technical design for features or services, prototype solutions, and make pragmatic tradeoffs among testability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Use AI agents routinely to write production code, work across unfamiliar codebases, and review AI-generated output with particular attention to risk.
  • Build skills, agents, or developer tooling when they can improve team productivity, and improve shared development systems.
  • Determine where AI can operate safely and where human review is required before production.
  • Build customer-facing features on AI systems, including handling non-deterministic outputs, designing and running evaluations, managing latency, and debugging model behavior.
  • Establish safe, observable, and auditable AI product practices, including monitoring and tracing.
  • Understand customer problems before development, participate directly in customer feedback sessions, and verify that solutions work.
  • Use product and adoption metrics and partner with the Product Manager to prioritize measurable customer and business impact.
  • Troubleshoot independently across team services, contribute to post-incident reviews, and recommend process and monitoring improvements as well as code fixes.
  • Focus review efforts on high-risk areas and identify gaps in review and verification tooling.
  • Lead team discussions, solicit differing opinions, and support team decisions once made.
  • Communicate with cross-functional partners and help teammates improve their use of AI through pairing, demos, and documentation.
  • Ship and operate customer-facing integrations, including work involving OAuth, webhooks, vendor APIs, retries, idempotency, monitoring, and agent tool calls.

Benefits

  • U.S.-based teammates receive health benefits beginning on their first day of employment.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for U.S.-based teammates.
  • Mental wellbeing support and an Employee Assistance Program.
  • Wellness subsidy reimbursement for gym memberships, fitness classes, and other eligible wellness expenses.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • 20 U.S. paid holidays, including a winter break.
  • Up to 12 weeks of 100% paid family leave for baby bonding, adoption, and caring for family members.
  • Up to 12 weeks of 100% paid medical leave for childbirth and medical needs.
  • Access to enterprise-grade AI tools, including leading LLMs and agentic AI workflow solutions.

  • Company-wide and team recognition programs, including President's Club and quarterly and departmental awards.
  • Sabbatical after seven years of service.
  • Stock option program for all employees.
  • Bonus and/or commission eligibility where applicable.
