About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, based either in Montreal, Canada or working remotely within the US East Coast time zone, to join a newly established engineering team responsible for delivering Unity platform support for an Android-based ecosystem encompassing mobile, laptop, and hybrid form factors. The primary objective of this team is to enable Unity developers to seamlessly deploy titles across these devices while fully leveraging their unique hardware and software capabilities, including optimized display utilization, native input integration, and platform-specific services. The team is also charged with researching and implementing runtime optimizations to improve startup performance and execution efficiency across both entry-level and high-performance devices. This will be accomplished by establishing performance benchmarks, collaborating with internal and external domain experts to conduct rigorous performance analyses of the Unity engine on the platform, and partnering with key stakeholders to execute verified enhancements. Candidates must possess expertise in C++, C#, and Android systems programming with a track record of writing high-quality software at scale.

Requirements

  • Solid background in Android systems programming, supported by advanced proficiency in C++, C#, and Java/Kotlin.
  • Experience in building and maintaining platform or runtime systems.
  • Solid understanding of how large applications span languages including how synchronous/async calls are made and how memory is owned and marshalled.
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable feature sets in a large multithreaded codebase
  • Diagnostic, debugging, and performance profiling competencies.

Nice To Haves

  • In-depth understanding of C# and managed runtime environments.
  • Familiarity with real-time 3D rendering methodologies and modern graphics APIs, including Vulkan.
  • A methodical approach to researching and developing innovative optimization solutions
  • A passion for the future of computer games or real-time 3D experiences in a variety of settings
  • Familiarity with when and how to best use AI in the software development process.

Responsibilities

  • Working as part of an agile team, to design and develop features and workflows in the Unity Editor to support these specific platform configurations.
  • Profile, analyze, and identify optimization opportunities across the stack, working cross-team to develop solutions.
  • Author comprehensive technical documentation and actively participate in design review processes.
  • Ensure a stable platform by investigating and resolving bug reports
  • Strengthen quality and delivery through automated testing and thoughtful code reviews — while fostering a culture of innovation, teamwork, and technical excellence.
