About The Position

NFF Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer with expertise in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and Microsoft Azure. The role designs, develops, deploys, and supports scalable, secure, and highly available enterprise applications, including cloud-native applications, real-time data processing, system integrations, and transit-related systems. The position also supports production operations, application performance, CI/CD, and integrations with internal and external systems. Basic knowledge of OpenTripPlanner (OTP), GTFS, and GTFS-Realtime is beneficial but not required.

Requirements

At least 7 years of professional software development experience.
At least 5 years of experience developing in Java, including Java 11, 17, or 21.
At least 5 years of experience with Spring Boot and the Spring Framework.
At least 5 years of experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices and integrating distributed enterprise applications.
At least 5 years of experience with object-oriented design, design patterns, multithreading, concurrency, and asynchronous processing.
At least 5 years of experience with JSON, XML, HTTP/HTTPS, WebSockets, and third-party API integrations.
At least 5 years of experience with SQL and relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
At least 5 years of experience troubleshooting application performance, memory utilization, and production issues.
At least 5 years of experience with Git and GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, and release management.
At least 3 years of experience developing, deploying, and supporting applications hosted in Microsoft Azure.
At least 3 years of experience with Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure Container Apps, and Azure Container Registry.
At least 3 years of experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Storage, Key Vault, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights.
At least 3 years of experience building CI/CD pipelines and automated testing using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
At least 3 years of experience with Maven or Gradle and Docker containerized deployments.
Industry certifications in Azure, Java, or related cloud technologies are required.

Nice To Haves

At least 3 years of experience supporting transit, transportation, public sector, or government organizations.
At least 2 years of experience with Azure networking and platform services, including Virtual Networks, private endpoints, DNS, Front Door, API Management, and Entra ID.
At least 3 years of experience with cloud security, high availability, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
Basic knowledge of OpenTripPlanner (OTP), GTFS, and GTFS-Realtime, including transit data structures, feed integration, and journey-planning applications.
Willingness to develop deeper knowledge of transit scheduling, prediction systems, and real-time passenger information technologies.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Azure technologies.
Develop and support RESTful APIs, microservices, and integrations with internal and external systems.
Build and maintain cloud-native applications emphasizing reliability, security, performance, and scalability.
Support application deployments, production troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization.
Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management processes.
Integrate and process real-time data from APIs, messaging systems, and external data feeds.
Collaborate with business analysts, infrastructure teams, architects, and other developers to deliver technical solutions.
Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, technical documentation, and development best practices.
Support transit-related applications, including OTP, GTFS data integration, and passenger information systems.
