About The Position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer for a full-time, 100% U.S.-based remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. The role administers, configures, troubleshoots, and enhances the Edifecs platform to support reliable, compliant Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transaction processing. The position works with Edifecs modules including XEServer, XEngine, TPM, SpecBuilder, and related components, and involves building and optimizing processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows. The developer investigates EDI mapping, validation, functional, and performance issues; manages logging, JVM tuning, and certificate and keystore configurations; and supports releases, environment refreshes, patching, and upgrades. The role collaborates with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, cloud teams, business teams, and development, operations, and security teams to maintain production systems. It also includes translating reporting needs into technical data models and explaining architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI). The role requires at least eight years of experience in EDI, healthcare, or enterprise application operations, and at least eight years in software or data engineering with strong AWS experience. A bachelor's degree in a related technical field or equivalent practical experience is required. The position is W-2. Candidates located in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered.

  • Hands-on understanding of XEServer orchestrations, batch flows, and execution contexts; XEngine validation, rulesets, and canonical structures; TPM trading partner configuration, routes, and agreements; EDI Gateway visibility, audit, search, and reprocessing; and SpecBuilder implementation guide definitions and map development.
  • Experience with EDI integration and interface management for inbound and outbound connectivity, including AS2, SFTP, FTPS, and HTTPS channels.
  • Experience with API-based integrations and gateway services.
  • Knowledge of AWS EC2 instance sizing, operating system tuning, storage I/O patterns, file transfer endpoints, routing, firewall coordination, network path debugging, and SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management.
