About The Position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Developer for a full-time, 100% U.S.-based remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. The role focuses on administering, configuring, troubleshooting, and enhancing the Edifecs platform to support reliable, compliant Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transaction processing. The developer will work with Edifecs XEServer, XEngine, TPM, SpecBuilder, EDI Gateway, and related modules, and will build, deploy, and optimize processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows. The position involves resolving mapping and validation problems, functional errors, transaction failures, and performance bottlenecks; managing logging, JVM tuning, and certificates and keystores; and supporting deployments, environment refreshes, patching, and upgrades. The developer will collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, Cloud teams, business teams, and development, operations, and security colleagues. The role also includes translating reporting requirements into technical data models, communicating architecture decisions and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, and documenting architecture, data, and migration plans. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI). The position requires 8+ years of experience in EDI, healthcare, or enterprise application operations and 8+ years in software or data engineering with strong AWS experience. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline is requested; equivalent practical experience is considered. Candidates located in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered. This is a W-2 position.
