About The Position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Software Developer for a full-time, 100% U.S.-based remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. The role administers, configures, troubleshoots, and enhances the Edifecs platform to support reliable and compliant EDI transaction processing. The position is W-2 and requires U.S. citizenship; applicants residing in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered. Candidates must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI). Selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and other background checks. The developer will work across Edifecs modules—including XEServer, XEngine, TPM, EDI Gateway, and SpecBuilder—and build, deploy, and optimize processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows. The role involves resolving transaction, mapping, validation, functional, and performance issues; managing logging, JVM tuning, and certificates; supporting deployments, environment refreshes, patching, and upgrades; and collaborating with EDI, DevSecOps, cloud, business, development, operations, and security teams. The position calls for extensive EDI and software or data engineering experience, including strong AWS knowledge and hands-on Edifecs architecture and operations expertise. Applicants must have at least eight years of experience in EDI, healthcare, or enterprise application operations and at least eight years in software or data engineering with strong AWS experience. A bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent practical experience is required. EDIFECS certification is listed under professional certifications. The posting also describes desired experience in healthcare X12 workflows, HIPAA, healthcare payer/PBM systems, clearinghouses, or pharmacy operations; AWS certification is a bonus.

  • Experience with API-based integrations and gateway services.
  • Experience troubleshooting EDI and performing root-cause analysis of transaction failures, mapping defects, partner-specific rejections, batch job flow failures, and performance degradation.
  • Experience optimizing job throughput and tuning engine performance, JVM, and memory; knowledge of high availability, failover orchestration, and monitoring dashboards.
  • Understanding of AWS EC2 sizing, OS tuning, storage I/O patterns, file transfer endpoints, routing, firewall coordination, network debugging, and SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management.
