MariaDB plc•Remote - US - UT, UT
•$150,000 - $205,000•Remote

About The Position

MariaDB is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to help build, deploy, and operate its managed MariaDB Cloud database platform in U.S. government cloud regions. MariaDB Cloud runs on Kubernetes across AWS and Google Cloud. The engineer will bring infrastructure and automation developed and validated by a global platform engineering team into the U.S. government cloud environments, own production reliability, and feed operational experience back into platform design. This is a permanent, salaried, full-time employee role. The position is U.S. remote, with Salt Lake City, Utah preferred and a hybrid role noted there. U.S. citizenship and U.S. residency are required due to federal government cloud access requirements.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering experience, including operating production Kubernetes.
  • Strong Infrastructure-as-Code skills, particularly Terraform; Terragrunt is a plus.
  • Experience with GitOps-driven deployment workflows.
  • Solid Linux, networking, and TLS fundamentals.
  • Experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana, or similar tools, and log pipelines.
  • Scripting or programming proficiency in Go, Python, or Bash.
  • Clear written communication skills for runbooks, incident reports, and change documentation.
  • U.S. citizenship and residency in the United States, required for federal government cloud access.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Terragrunt.
  • The role offers founding-engineer ownership and visibility for a new environment, backed by an experienced global team.
  • The platform is built as code and validated before deployment, with a focus on production excellence rather than maintaining snowflake infrastructure.
  • Opportunity to influence how a managed database platform meets federal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and operate Kubernetes-based infrastructure in AWS GovCloud (US) and Google Cloud using Terraform/Terragrunt and GitOps pipelines developed with the global SRE team.
  • Own production reliability for the U.S. government cloud environment, including monitoring, alerting, capacity, incident response, and post-incident improvement.
  • Run and maintain Kubernetes-based supporting services, including observability, logging, secrets management, messaging, and CI/CD tooling.
  • Participate in implementing security hardening and federal-environment compliance requirements, such as FedRAMP, alongside security and compliance teams.
  • Continuously improve automation by turning recurring tasks into code.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for the environments operated.
  • Provide operational feedback to inform the platform's design.

Benefits

  • 25 days of paid annual leave, plus holidays.
  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Health insurance, subject to eligibility requirements.
  • Life insurance, subject to eligibility requirements.
  • Disability insurance, subject to eligibility requirements.
  • Funds toward professional development resources.
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (FPTO).
  • 401(k).
  • Paid holidays.
  • Parental leave.
