About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Senior Cloud Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to design and develop advanced Python-based AWS cloud solutions and reliability tools for the Cloud Foundation Services (CFS) platform within the Infrastructure, Platforms & Operations organization. The role applies software engineering practices, including Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code, to build scalable, reusable solutions that improve platform reliability across the Federal Reserve System. This is a remote position. The engineer will develop Python automation, APIs, utilities, observability solutions, and CI/CD pipelines; optimize Terraform-managed AWS resources; and define SRE standards and reliability metrics such as SLIs and SLOs. The position also involves incident response and on-call rotation, blameless postmortems, collaboration across Agile and Scaled Agile teams, and keeping current with AWS and cloud-native technologies.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust level clearance.
Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience, or high school diploma or equivalent and 12 years of experience.
At least 5 years of advanced Python development experience building enterprise-grade, highly available AWS tools, APIs, and utilities.
At least 7 years of software development experience focused on reliability and platform engineering.
At least 3 years of hands-on AWS development experience, with deep understanding of core services such as EC2, VPC, S3, Lambda, IAM, CloudFormation, EventBridge, and Step Functions, and resource cost optimization.
At least 3 years of experience applying SRE principles, including observability, toil automation, SLIs/SLOs, and reliability engineering.
Expert-level Terraform Infrastructure as Code proficiency, including module development and state management.
Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps practices.
Experience with observability tools and practices, including Grafana, AWS CloudWatch, and AWS Canary.
Experience defining, implementing, and managing SLOs/SLIs and error budgets; familiarity with root cause analyses and postmortem documentation.
Working experience in Agile and Scaled Agile environments, and familiarity with ITSM processes, resilience testing, and chaos engineering practices.

Nice To Haves

Experience with GoLang or additional programming languages.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain Python-based reliability solutions and SRE utilities for AWS environments to reduce toil and improve platform reliability.
Build Python automation scripts, APIs, and utilities.
Implement observability and monitoring solutions using Grafana and AWS CloudWatch, including custom metrics and dashboards.
Build and optimize Terraform Infrastructure as Code for AWS resources, integrating Python-based workflows and cost-efficient design principles.
Develop CI/CD pipelines and automated testing to support code quality, reliability, and rapid delivery.
Define SRE standards, best practices, and guidelines, and establish metrics such as SLIs and SLOs.
Apply version control, code reviews, test-driven development, and documentation practices.
Participate in incident management and on-call rotation; support SRE tools, troubleshoot production issues, and help prevent recurring incidents through detection and pattern analysis.
Stay current with AWS services, SRE methodologies, and cloud-native development technologies, and drive adoption of innovative solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Agile and Scaled Agile frameworks to deliver cloud automation solutions.
Produce blameless postmortems with actionable items and documented failure scenarios.
