About The Position

Glean is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to strengthen the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of its production services. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role responsible for designing, building, and operating resilient cloud infrastructure; improving service reliability against meaningful SLOs; and helping engineering teams respond to production issues through observability, effective incident practices, and blameless learning. The engineer will contribute technical expertise to system and architectural decisions and partner with engineers across the organization to deliver dependable systems. In Glean’s hybrid cloud environment, the role addresses distributed-systems challenges by applying software engineering and SRE skills to automate repetitive work, build tools, and improve deployment, monitoring, and on-call workflows. The work includes investigating incidents, reducing toil, and optimizing performance, capacity, and cost to support company growth and provide customers with a reliable experience. The position is hybrid, with four days a week in Glean’s Mountain View office. The standard base salary range is $200,000–$260,000 annually. Compensation may also include variable compensation, equity, and benefits, depending on the role and applicable factors. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 5 years of experience in a senior-level Site Reliability Engineering or similar role, particularly managing cloud-based services and infrastructure.
At least 5 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages.
At least 3 years of experience leading projects and designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems running in the cloud.
Strong knowledge of a cloud platform such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
Solid understanding of networking, security principles, and SRE and security best practices.
Proficiency with monitoring and alerting tools to detect and respond effectively to potential issues.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and mentorship, establish reliability best practices, and foster a culture of reliability across engineering teams.
Influence best practices, drive cross-team collaboration, and contribute to key objectives with engineering leadership and cross-functional partners.
Shape architectural decisions and help ensure delivery of high-quality, reliable systems.
Implement and maintain resilient cloud architectures; monitor system performance and identify and resolve bottlenecks and potential points of failure.
Participate in the primary on-call rotation, support incident management, foster blameless postmortems, and improve the sustainability and efficiency of on-call practices.
Develop and maintain automation scripts, tools, and processes for deployment, monitoring, and cloud operations.
Optimize cloud infrastructure and applications for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
Collaborate with security engineers to apply security best practices and support compliance with security standards and policies.
Design and configure monitoring and alerting systems, respond proactively to potential issues, and maintain production dashboards and playbooks.
Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, including system design and launch reviews, and provide SRE input to improve system architecture.
