About The Position

Iru is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to own incident detection, response, and learning, and to drive consistent observability across services and teams. Working alongside the Infrastructure team, this role focuses on operational excellence and measurable reliability. The engineer will partner with engineering and platform teams to reduce mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to recover (MTTR), and make reliability measurable, repeatable, and team-owned. The role leads incident lifecycle improvements and establishes organization-wide standards for metrics, logs, traces, SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, dashboards, monitors, and alerting patterns in Datadog. It also helps engineers build operational excellence and production-readiness practices, contributes to reliability planning and exercises, and connects SRE and Infrastructure teams around shared tools, standards, and goals.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in SRE, production engineering, or equivalent, including on-call responsibility for customer-facing systems.
  • Proven experience running or significantly improving incident response processes or tooling in a distributed systems environment.
  • Deep hands-on Datadog experience building dashboards, monitors, and instrumentation standards across multiple teams or services.
  • Experience with metrics, logging, and tracing at scale.
  • Demonstrated experience defining production SLOs and SLIs and error budget policies, and working with teams to codify reliability metrics.
  • Strong understanding of Linux, networking, distributed systems failure modes, and cloud or hybrid infrastructure, including Kubernetes, load balancers, databases, and queues.
  • Proficiency in at least one of Go, Python, or a similar language for tooling and automation.
  • Comfort with infrastructure-as-code concepts such as Terraform or equivalent.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate high-pressure incident discussions and postmortems.
  • Track record of influencing without direct authority and driving adoption across engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with OpenTelemetry or similar vendor-neutral instrumentation strategies.
  • Familiarity with PagerDuty, Incident.io, Opsgenie, or similar incident-management tools, and Statuspage or equivalent external-communications tools.
  • Experience in a hyper-growth startup environment.
  • Experience in regulated or high-compliance environments.
  • Contributions to internal developer platforms or shared reliability tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and refine incident detection, triage, communication, mitigation, resolution, and post-incident review.
  • Define and maintain severity models, escalation paths, on-call expectations, and usable, up-to-date runbooks and playbooks.
  • Facilitate blameless postmortems and turn findings into tracked remediations and shared learning to reduce repeat incidents.
  • Improve coordination during major incidents, including roles, tooling, customer and stakeholder updates, and handoffs.
  • Partner with security, support, and product teams on incident communications and applicable regulatory or contractual obligations.
  • Establish and maintain organization-wide Datadog standards for metrics, logs, and traces, including naming conventions, cardinality, retention, and sampling.
  • Define and drive adoption of SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets across engineering teams, supporting both new and existing programs and enabling teams to own their observability.
  • Build and maintain reusable Datadog dashboard templates, monitor templates, and alerting patterns.
  • Promote golden signals and RED/USE-style alerting that reflects user-impacting symptoms rather than infrastructure noise.
  • Partner with Infrastructure on observability stack decisions, multi-tenancy, cost controls, and data lifecycle.
  • Reduce alert noise through threshold tuning, ownership assignment, and on-call load management.
  • Mentor engineers on operational excellence, safe deployment practices, and production readiness.
  • Contribute to capacity planning, chaos and game-day exercises, and reliability reviews for critical changes.
  • Connect SRE and Infrastructure teams to align on tooling, standards, and shared goals.
