As a member of OpenLight’s R&D Test Engineering team, the Senior Silicon Photonics Automated Test Production Engineer works with experienced engineers to transfer Photonic Integrated Circuit wafer and die testing from R&D into production. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and executing test solutions that validate Silicon Photonics devices and PICs, primarily at wafer level using automated wafer probers. It is based onsite at OpenLight’s Santa Clara office and San Jose laboratory. The engineer leads the transition from low-volume testing to production, partnering with test engineering and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) organizations to establish production requirements and complete manufacturing handoffs. The role includes managing low-volume wafer testing and burn-in at a local OSAT, initially managing high-volume OSAT testing, reviewing hardware and software for production readiness, and coordinating equipment, BOMs, training, software, data, and troubleshooting during transfers. As a senior member of the low-volume test team, the engineer also operates local test stations, develops or works with test automation software in C++ or Java and test-analysis software in Python, and manages test schedules and communications about plans, results, and project status. The role contributes to yield improvement, test-time reduction, standard operating procedures, custom test hardware, and future silicon photonic wafer and die production capabilities, including active optical positioning and integrated RF testing. Occasional international travel to OSATs and partner companies is expected.
