About The Position

Apple’s Biophotonics team is seeking a Silicon Photonics Process Integration Engineer to join its growing silicon photonics group. The role contributes to a multidisciplinary team building next-generation silicon photonic integrated circuits in a fast-paced environment that values clear communication and follow-through. It combines hands-on engineering with organization and is suited to an early-career engineer who enjoys technical detail while keeping a complex program on track. The engineer will work with internal design, PDK, test, and other cross-functional teams to translate requirements into process specifications and execution plans. They will run process development with external vendors, from design of experiments (DOE) and wafer planning through data review and decisions; track schedules, deliverables, and open issues across parallel workstreams; and create and maintain process documentation for the silicon photonics platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • PhD, or a master’s degree with equivalent research experience, in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Hands-on cleanroom fabrication experience, such as lithography, thin-film deposition, etch, or metrology.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Research background in photonic devices or integrated photonics.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor process integration, from front-end fabrication through post-fabrication processes such as wafer thinning, singulation, or packaging.
  • Experience designing experiments (DOE) and analyzing process data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate work across internal teams and external partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with external fabs, vendors, or shared cleanroom facilities.

Responsibilities
