About The Position

The Senior Scientist, New Product Development develops and commercializes innovative clinical sample preparation products and LC-MS/MS workflows for mass spectrometry-based applications. The role serves as a subject matter expert in clinical sample preparation, LC-MS/MS method development, and applied workflow development, while also supporting broader new product development projects involving magnetic bead-based sample preparation, extraction, enrichment, cleanup, and other analytical technologies as business needs evolve. The position is part of the Research and Development Department in Torrance, California, and is performed onsite. It reports to the Senior R&D Manager, New Product Development. The role may involve occasional travel and necessary overtime based on project, customer, conference, or business needs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience developing sample preparation, extraction, enrichment, cleanup, or quantitative workflows for biological, clinical, or other complex matrices.
  • Strong hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS, mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, or related analytical instrumentation, including method development, optimization, quantitative analysis, data interpretation, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience designing and interpreting experiments assessing method-performance attributes such as recovery, selectivity, sensitivity, reproducibility, matrix effects, carryover, and robustness.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex R&D projects and communicate scientific results clearly through reports, presentations, publications, application notes, conference materials, or customer-facing content.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, move, or carry laboratory materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely in laboratory environments involving chemicals, biological materials, hazardous waste, analytical instruments, and required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally or work necessary overtime based on project, customer, conference, or business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Three years of experience working in or closely supporting a clinical laboratory, including clinical sample preparation and LC-MS/MS workflows for biological matrices.
  • Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry analysis in clinical, toxicology, or related diagnostic applications.
  • Experience developing magnetic bead products or automation-ready sample preparation workflows across multiple formats, analyte classes, biological matrices, and application areas.
  • An established scientific network and customer-facing experience translating clinical laboratory, clinical mass spectrometry, toxicology, or related diagnostic needs into product development opportunities.
  • A strong record of scientific publication and communication through peer-reviewed papers, conference presentations or posters, technical reports, application notes, or related content.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and commercialize clinical sample preparation consumables and LC-MS/MS workflows for clinical research, toxicology, forensic, pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, and broader applied-market needs.
  • Identify and understand clinical sample preparation, LC-MS/MS workflow, and industrial separation challenges, and translate them into practical technical solutions and R&D opportunities.
  • Design, optimize, and troubleshoot sample preparation methods and workflows across diverse analytes, biological matrices, and applications, emphasizing analyte recovery, matrix-effect reduction, reproducibility, and LC-MS/MS compatibility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute projects, transfer technology, resolve technical issues, and deliver new products on time.
  • Review scientific literature, conduct experiments, evaluate workflow performance, communicate results, prepare technical and customer-facing materials, publish findings, and support patent filings.
