About The Position

The Senior Salesforce Engineer will develop, maintain, and modernize an established Salesforce platform supporting live logistics operations. The role is primarily hands-on coding across Lightning Web Components, Aura Components, Visualforce, and Apex, including tracing issues from the user interface through Apex and integration layers while ensuring reliability and data integrity. Candidates must be local to the Chicagoland area and work in the Elmhurst, Illinois office every Thursday. The position builds and modernizes internal operations and dispatch tools; develops integrations and custom Apex REST endpoints; owns asynchronous Apex processing; and works on scalable data models and granular record visibility. The engineer follows established CI/CD, branching, testing, and review practices, helps evaluate developer tools and Salesforce AI features, and chooses between configuration, Flow, and Apex based on architectural needs. The role also includes diagnosing production issues and collaborating with technical leads, business analysts, and stakeholders to create scalable solutions. MedSpeed is a healthcare logistics company that transports medical supplies and specimens. The salary range is $140,000–$155,000, depending on experience, skills, and location, with a discretionary bonus available. Final candidates are subject to a background check in compliance with applicable laws.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on Salesforce development experience, with most of that time spent writing Apex, building custom UI, and architecting solutions.
  • Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I certification.
  • Advanced Apex and data modeling expertise, including SOQL/SOSL, enterprise trigger-handler frameworks, bulkification, and asynchronous design with Batchable, Queueable, and Schedulable Apex.
  • Experience building and maintaining custom REST integrations on both inbound and outbound sides, including Named Credentials, JSON/XML serialization, OAuth 2.0, and fault-tolerant error handling.
  • Extensive Lightning Web Components experience and practical ability to read, maintain, and refactor Aura Components and Visualforce.
  • Thorough knowledge of Salesforce sharing architecture, record-level security, Large Data Volumes, and CPU/heap governor-limit optimization.
  • Experience with Git-based branching workflows, Salesforce CLI (sf), metadata/source-format deployments, and resolving merge and deployment conflicts.
  • Clear technical writing for documentation, pull requests, and architectural discussions.
  • Local to the Chicagoland area and able to work in the Elmhurst, Illinois office every Thursday.

Nice To Haves

  • Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II, Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder, or Salesforce Certified System Architect or Application Architect certification.
  • Experience safely introducing developer productivity tools, including AI-assisted coding and IDE tooling, and exploring Salesforce AI features such as Agentforce and Prompt Builder.
  • Familiarity with healthcare/HIPAA compliance, PHI access controls, or logistics and transportation operations.

Responsibilities

  • Build and modernize internal tools used by operations and dispatch, delivering new capabilities in Lightning Web Components and refactoring legacy Aura Components and Visualforce pages.
  • Design, build, and maintain high-throughput integrations, including consuming external services and exposing custom Apex REST endpoints for internal systems.
  • Own business-critical Batch, Queueable, and Schedulable Apex jobs; ensure they operate within governor limits and use robust retry and error-handling patterns.
  • Guide migration of legacy automations to Flow or modern Apex.
  • Build scalable data models and manage granular record visibility using Apex Managed Sharing, programmatic sharing rules, and performance tuning.
  • Write comprehensive unit tests with meaningful assertions and robust mock frameworks.
  • Use Git-based workflows, automated validation, and peer code reviews.
  • Choose Salesforce Flow and native configuration when appropriate, and Apex when performance, scale, or maintainability requires it.
  • Diagnose production issues, including debug logs, governor limit exceptions, and integration timeouts, and address root causes.
  • Collaborate with technical leads, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate operational needs into scalable technical designs and constructively challenge approaches that will not scale.
  • Evaluate and safely integrate modern developer tooling, including AI coding assistants and Salesforce features such as Agentforce and Prompt Builder where they provide value.
