About The Position

ATCS is seeking a Senior Roadway Engineer or Roadway Engineering Project Manager to join its growing Virginia transportation team. This hybrid position is based in Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach or Newport News) or Glen Allen. The role involves leading and contributing to the planning, design, and delivery of roadway infrastructure projects throughout Virginia, including high-profile VDOT and municipal projects, while helping shape the roadway design practice.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• At least 6 years of roadway design experience; Virginia experience is preferred.
• Experience with MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
• Knowledge of AASHTO, VDOT, and local design standards and practices.
• Strong communication, project management, and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; candidates licensed in other states will be considered with a commitment to obtain Virginia licensure.
• Civil 3D experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and manage VDOT and municipal roadway projects from concept through construction.
• Develop roadway plans, profiles, typical sections, maintenance of traffic plans, and cost estimates.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project stakeholders.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers while supporting team growth.
• Coordinate with contractors, utility providers, and public agencies.
• Participate in public meetings and help drive successful project outcomes.
