About The Position

AKRF’s Engineering Department is seeking a Senior Civil Roadway Project Manager based in New York City, NY. The role contributes to the design and delivery of public roadway and infrastructure projects for New York City and State agency clients. The successful candidate will lead civil design and project management for capital improvement projects involving roadway, drainage, and utility infrastructure, while coordinating with staff, clients, and stakeholders. The position also provides direction, mentoring, and training to staff engineers and is responsible for managing project tasks, schedules, budgets, quality, and deliverable timeliness.

The role calls for strong technical knowledge of roadway design, including alignments, grading and drainage, utility relocations, water main and sewer design, traffic signals, street lighting, and maintenance and protection of traffic and construction phasing. Experience delivering projects for NYCDDC and NYCDOT is strongly preferred; experience with other New York agencies is a plus.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10 or more years of related experience.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

• Experience managing and delivering infrastructure projects for NYCDDC and NYCDOT.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York State, or ability to obtain one within 6–12 months of hire.
• Knowledge of MicroStation / Open Roads.
• Experience with NYSDOT, NYCEDC, NYCDEP, PANYNJ, or MTA.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design and manage plans, specifications, and deliverables for capital improvement projects involving roadway, drainage, and utility infrastructure in New York City.
• Provide direction, delegation, mentoring, and training to staff engineers.
• Manage project tasks, schedules, budgets, and overall project management responsibilities.
• Oversee day-to-day project communication and coordination with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
• Ensure deliverables are high quality and timely while managing multiple deadlines.
