About The Position

Registered Nurses in this senior level job perform advanced and/or supervisory tasks for health programs or nursing assignments in a variety of settings with a variety of patient groups, care providers and/or facilities. Exercise full professional discretion and technical judgment based on licensure in general duty settings, clinical nursing settings and/or in public health programs. The Senior RN Administrator on Site will work Monday-Thursday (6:00 PM-4:30 AM). The mission of the Utah State Developmental Center is to serve as "a statewide resource center for people with disabilities while promoting opportunity through choice and outcome based support." This will be accomplished by providing critical services, support and resources for the intellectually disabled individuals that reside at our facility.

Requirements

  • Is licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah.
  • Has one or more years of professional experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Is interested in developing a rapport with intellectually disabled individuals and staff.
  • Can take charge of a situation where appropriate and necessary.
  • Is able to demonstrate honesty and integrity.
  • Is able to react quickly to situations as they unfold.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to administer First Aid and/or CPR.
  • Utilized information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments providing career guidance including alternative treatments, rehabilitation equipment and its proper use, and methods to evaluate treatment effectiveness.
  • Follow and apply treatment plans as developed by a licensed professional.
  • Develop and maintain applicable professional contacts, resources and /or networks.
  • Make a decision or solve a problem by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions.
  • Maintain composure and respond appropriately in stressful, emergency, volatile, or crisis situations.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with the intellectually disabled.
  • Mental health experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical examinations and/or preventative health measures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and agency rules.
  • Document timely, outcome based information.
  • Provide nightly reports required by the facility.
  • Give direct nursing care commensurate with education, training, or experience.
  • All “Critical Incidents” will be reported by the end of shift via email, plus communicated to the on-coming nursing shift for any continued nursing/medical care needed.
  • The AOS will be responsible for overseeing timely crisis response and notifying the AOC, Superintendent, and/or Medical Director depending on the situation.
  • The AOS will notify the Administrator on Call (AOC) about emergency concerns, reasonable suspicion of employee impairment, missing individuals, or potentially dangerous situations.
  • The AOS will contact and coordinate drug testing for an employee that is suspected of being impaired while on the job.
  • Any situation that warrants placing an employee on administrative leave pending investigation will be completed by the AOS.
  • AOS may be asked to attend Steering meetings if clarification of incidents is necessary.
  • Provide medical consultation in specialized areas of knowledge.
  • Perform physical examinations and/or preventive health measures to assess and evaluate patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Provide direct and/or indirect patient care oriented toward improving or maintaining health and preventing illness.
  • Provide clients with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, goals and expectations.
  • Assess situations and provide appropriate interventions to prevent or resolve crisis situations.
  • Maintain and update patient charts, records, and information.
