About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a full-time Senior Respiratory Therapist. This role is responsible for delivering respiratory care, including ventilation, medical gas therapy, medicated aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygiene, blood gas sampling and analysis, non-invasive oxygen and carbon dioxide monitoring. The position also involves supervising the implementation of respiratory care in patient care units, providing critical care expertise, education, and relief for routine shift staffing and operations. Selected candidates are eligible for a $10,000 sign-on incentive with a minimum two-year commitment (current UI employees are not eligible). Additionally, an advanced respiratory care services differential of up to $5,000 (prorated) is available. The position is for the night shift (1900-0730) and is 90-100% time, with salary based on 100% time. Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a health related science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is required
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care or National Society for Cardiopulmonary Technology and licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of Iowa is required
  • Maintain active NBRC Membership
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Respiratory Care practice is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Possess a current State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner license
  • Graduate of a Commission of Accreditation Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved program

Nice To Haves

  • 3 to 5 years of recent critical care experience

Responsibilities

  • Institutes and provides mechanical ventilation
  • Institutes & provides all forms of CPAP & BiPAP
  • Delivers medical gas therapy
  • Provides safe delivery of medicated aerosol & general therapies
  • Provides pulmonary hygiene standards
  • Performs blood gas sampling & analysis
  • Provides non-invasive monitoring
  • Participates in orientation/education activities
  • Assist in the training of students
  • Adheres to hospital epidemiological practices
  • Maintains appearance, demeanor, and attendance
  • Maintains licensure
  • Performs senior therapist duties
  • Participates in technical operations of department
  • Performs other special projects & tasks as assigned
