About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for its Diagnostic Lab/Hyperbaric Medicine department. This role is responsible for delivering a wide range of respiratory care services, including pulmonary endoscopy, pulmonary function testing, exercise and metabolic testing, upper airway mechanics, discharge planning, patient education, medical gas therapy, medicated aerosol therapy, blood gas sampling, non-invasive monitoring, patient assessments, aerosol therapy, and ventilator management. The selected candidate will also be trained to work as an attending inside the multi-place hyperbaric chamber. This position involves on-call assignments and requires successful completion of a physical exam and a hyperbaric dive. Requirements

  • Graduate of a two- or four-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program, or completion of the requirements to become registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Obtain registry from the NBRC within six (6) months of hire if not already registered.
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of Iowa.
  • Possess a current CPR certification card.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Greater than one year of recent ICU level experience.
  • Experience with an electronic medical record documentation system.
  • Currently registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Hyperbaric Medicine experience
  • Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT)
  • ACLS Certified
  • PALS Certified
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT)
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT)
  • Experience with an electronic medical record documentation system.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of respiratory care, including pulmonary endoscopy, pulmonary function testing, pulmonary exercise and metabolic testing, upper airway mechanics, discharge planning, patient education, medical gas therapy, medicated aerosol therapy, blood gas sampling, non-invasive monitoring, patient assessments, aerosol therapy, and ventilator management.
  • Training in hyperbaric medicine as an attending inside the multi-place chamber.
  • On-call assignments.
