Senior Research Investigator
About The Position
The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania seeks a Senior Research Investigator for the De Biasi and Dani labs. The labs study the causes of psychiatric disorders, particularly substance use disorder and addiction, and seek to advance therapeutic strategies. The investigator will design, lead, and oversee advanced behavioral, neurochemical, and systems-level experiments and contribute throughout research development, implementation, analysis, and reporting. The position also assesses project feasibility, including viability, efficiency, timelines, and study design; oversees lab workflow and personnel productivity; and provides training on techniques as needed. Responsibilities include analyzing data, preparing manuscripts, and presenting findings. The position is contingent on continued sponsored project funding.
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Philosophy.
- Five to seven years of postdoctoral experience.
- Experience with stereotactic injections, viral manipulations, genetic models in substance use research, in vivo and ex vivo monitoring of neurochemical release, and behavioral tests and analyses.

Responsibilities
- Design, perform, and analyze behavioral neuropharmacology experiments.
- Provide analytical support for ongoing lab experiments.
- Review, edit, format, and write grant proposals and manuscripts for publication.
- Direct the design and implementation of original experiments and assist with their execution.
- Collect and manage data.
- Conduct literature reviews.
- Assist with lab management and regulatory compliance.
- Assess proposed projects through feasibility studies, providing input on viability, efficiency, timelines, and study design.
- Oversee workflow and productivity of lab personnel and provide training on techniques as needed.
- Prepare manuscripts and present research findings through various forums.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
