About The Position

This is an internal SFSU application for a Senior Research Associate (Research Technician III, Range 1) position within the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs/Public Health. The role is temporary, grant-funded, and will end on or before June 30, 2027. Permanent status cannot be earned. The position involves compiling and interpreting statistical data for public health issues, preparing detailed study plans and reports, and assisting the Principal Investigator with day-to-day study activities. Responsibilities include supervising recruitment, data collection, data management, and coordinating activities across studies. The incumbent will recommend and apply procedures, develop data processing methods, analyze quantitative and qualitative data, prepare reports and graphic presentations, and supervise other technical research staff. They will also initiate or recommend new studies, represent research staff at meetings, and present research findings. The research technician will ensure study protocols are followed, materials are produced to high scientific standards, and track research activities across sites. Key roles include literature reviews, data collection, and dissemination of findings through abstracts, presentations, and preparing materials for diverse audiences. Supervisory responsibilities include directing small research staff and students in data compilation and analysis.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of research techniques, including planning studies, determining variables, and developing reference materials.

Responsibilities

  • Compile, manage, merge, and clean multiple data sources.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update codebooks for all data sources.
  • Implement statistical analyses, including developing code for descriptive and inferential statistics, summarizing data, and preparing tables and graphs.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of recruitment activities and participant interactions.
  • Ensure compliance with IRB protocols and culturally appropriate informed consent processes.
  • Track participant enrollment/analysis targets and identify new strategies to meet them.
  • Assist the PI with project coordination and management, including agenda setting for research meetings and ensuring research tasks align with timelines.
  • Coordinate data collection, management, and analyses with the research team, collaborators, and co-investigators.
  • Develop weekly/monthly plans to carry out research and supervise activities.
  • Work closely with the PI and co-investigators to carry out research activities across prevention science projects.
  • Supervise research staff (including students, student interns, outreach and recruitment coordinators) to advance all phases of research.
  • Review literature related to child health, disparities, obesity, and the influences of schools and policies on nutrition, physical activity, and food environments.
  • Devise, implement, and maintain an electronic-based bibliographic system using EndNote and Excel.
  • Generate reference libraries, organize files, and create summary tables of evidence for analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of research findings for manuscript development and dissemination.
  • Assist the PI with submission of abstracts for conference presentations, preparation of posters, research briefs, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Deliver professional presentations at annual research conferences.
  • Conduct periodic policy analyses directly related to the research.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
