About The Position

The Senior Research Associate (Research Technician III) will compile and interpret statistical data in the investigation of public health issues. Technical responsibilities include the preparation of detailed plans for study, and the preparation of detailed reports on phases of major studies. The Research Tech will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator to assist with direct day-to-day study activities, ensuring the successful implementation of research across all phases. This includes supervising recruitment, data collection, and data management, and coordinating activities across studies to ensure they run smoothly and in a timely fashion. The incumbent will recommend, devise, and apply procedures for proposed studies; develop and work with the Principal Investigator and other technical staff on the programming and machine processing of data; analyze quantitative and qualitative statistical data and prepare interpretative reports and graphic presentations of research material; supervise and assist other technical research staff; initiate or recommend new studies or investigations, additional uses of existing data, and modifications of procedures. The role involves representing the research staff at meetings and conferences to present research findings, programs, and research objectives. The research technician will work with and supervise members of the research team to ensure study protocols are followed and materials are produced with the highest scientific standards, and in a timely manner. This includes tracking planned research activities across study sites and institutions. The research technician will play key roles in building and maintaining systems across study components, including literature reviews, data collection, and dissemination of study findings such as the development of abstracts, research presentations for national conferences, and the preparation of findings for diverse audiences. Supervisory responsibilities include the direction of small research staff and students engaged in the compilation and analysis of data.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of research techniques, including the planning of studies and investigations, the determining of variables and the developing of reference materials.
  • Thorough knowledge of research reporting techniques.
  • General knowledge of machine tabulation techniques and the programming of data.
  • Thorough knowledge of the techniques and treatment of data such as simple correlation methods, trend analysis, frequency distribution analysis, sampling techniques, hypothesis testing and methods of interval estimation.
  • Familiarity with the principles of personnel management and effective supervision and ability to direct the work of others.
  • Ability to reason logically and capacity for independent and creative thinking on research problems.
  • Ability to develop techniques for handling a large variety of detailed data and ability to analyze these data.

Responsibilities

  • Compile, manage, merge and clean multiple data sources.
  • Prepare, maintain and update codebooks for each and all data sources.
  • Implement statistical analyses, including the development of code for descriptive and inferential Statistics, summarize data, prepare tables, and graphs to depict research findings.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of recruitment activities and participant interactions.
  • Ensure compliance with IRB protocols and culturally appropriate informed consent processes.
  • Keep track of participant enrollment/analysis targets; identify new strategies to meet those enrollment targets as needed; provide regular updates to the study team.
  • Assist the PI with project coordination and management, including agenda setting for research meetings within and across institutions, and ensuring overall team research tasks align with timelines and fluctuating deadlines.
  • Coordinate data collection, management and analyses with the research team, collaborators and coinvestigators.
  • Develop weekly/monthly plans to carry out research and supervise activities.
  • Work closely with the PI, and co-investigators across institutions (universities, community organizations) to carry out research activities across prevention science projects, including, the design, implementation, data collection, data management, and analysis as well as coordinating activities and the development of products across studies.
  • Supervise research staff (including students, student interns, outreach and recruitment coordinator) across projects to advance all phases of the research, and ensure milestones and products are generated according to study timelines.
  • Review literature related to child health, disparities, obesity and the influences of schools and policies related to nutrition, physical activity and food environments near schools.
  • Devise, implement and maintain an electronic-based bibliographic system to enable a methodical organization of our multi-topic literature, using endnote and excel software programs.
  • Generate multiple reference libraries, organize files and create summary tables of evidence for analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of research findings for manuscript development and dissemination.
  • Assist the PI with submission of abstracts for conference presentations, preparation of posters, research briefs, and power point presentations.
  • Deliver professional presentations at annual research conferences.
  • Conduct periodic policy analyses directly related to our research, including changes over time.
