SENIOR REFRIGERATION MECHANIC - Baker Correctional Institution
About The Position
The Senior Refrigeration Mechanic is a Career Service position in the Maintenance Department at Baker Correctional Institution. The role installs and repairs heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related systems, as well as food service equipment needed to operate a major institution. The employee also provides on-the-job HVAC training to supervised inmates. The position supports the Florida Department of Corrections’ mission to maintain a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. It is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area served.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience in the HVAC field, or four or more years of experience in the HVAC field.
- College or vocational/technical training in one of the listed trades may substitute for the required experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Pass a Level 2 background check before starting work.
- Be a U.S. citizen or otherwise authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Install and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems and associated components.
- Install and repair food service equipment required to operate a major institution.
- Provide supervised inmates with on-the-job training in HVAC and associated systems.
- Maintain records of refrigerant use and recovery in compliance with DEP regulations.
- Perform technical preventive maintenance on various HVAC systems.
- Install electronic, pneumatic, and digital control systems.
- Diagnose problems with HVAC and closed loop systems.
- Perform HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building preventive maintenance tasks.
- Prepare reports as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent.
- Maintain custody and control of supervised inmates, prepare rehabilitation progress reports, and participate in required departmental staff training.
