About The Position

The Plumber is a Career Service position in the Maintenance Department at Charlotte Correctional Institution. The role installs and repairs plumbing and associated systems, including LP gas supply, waste collection, and potable water systems needed to operate a major institution. The employee also provides on-the-job plumbing training to supervised inmates. This is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area served.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience in the plumbing trade, or four or more years of experience in the plumbing trade. College or vocational/technical training in the trade may substitute for the required experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Pass a Level 2 background check before starting work.
• Be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on plumbing systems, including LP gas supply, waste collection, and potable water systems.
• Install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures and systems such as valves, faucets, traps, sinks, sewer lines, vents, and sanitary fixtures.
• Conduct tests, maintain logs, and keep equipment records in accordance with Department guidelines.
• Repair, replace, and inspect high- and low-pressure steam boilers, safety devices, and controls; clean boilers, tanks, and water heaters.
• Read blueprints, plan and organize work, and prepare reports.
• Supervise inmates and provide on-the-job training in plumbing and associated systems.
• Participate in departmental training and perform other related duties as required.
