About The Position

The Senior Psychiatric Technician will work in the Atrium Health University City Emergency Department (ED). This full-time position involves observing, reporting, and documenting patient behavior changes, interacting therapeutically with patients, and assisting in various therapeutic activities. The role also includes making patient rounds, monitoring patients in seclusion/restraints, participating in process improvement, and documenting observations in the clinical record. All mandatory training must be completed as per facility policy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree or certification from the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians for teammates promoted after 2017 required.
  • 2 years of experience required.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
  • CPI Certification required within 90 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Observes, reports, and documents signs, symptoms or changes in patient behavior to charge nurse.
  • Interacts with patients therapeutically.
  • Assists, initiates, and participates in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities.
  • Makes rounds on assigned patients as ordered.
  • Monitors patients in seclusion/restraints and documents observations.
  • Participates in unit-based process improvement activities.
  • Documents observations in the clinical record.
  • Completes all mandatory training as per facility policy.
