About The Position

Barvin is seeking an enthusiastic, customer-service-focused Senior Property Accountant to manage the financial aspects of Barvin Management's apartment communities. This role, under the direction of the Controller, will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for several residential apartment communities. Key responsibilities include preparing financial statements, fulfilling owner and investor requests, and assisting with operating budgets and special projects. The ideal candidate will be adept at variance analysis, account reconciliation, and managing payments for debt service, owner distributions, real estate taxes, and insurance. This position also involves preparing replacement reserve filings, maintaining equity schedules, and facilitating the annual budget process. Collaboration with regional and property managers, as well as third-party ownership, is essential. The role also emphasizes process improvement and timely problem resolution.

Requirements

  • BA or BS Degree in Accounting/Finance preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience is required
  • Knowledge of GAAP is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, sumifts, etc.)
  • Great communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Strong ability to work under pressure independently or in team environment
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrates ability and interest to develop strong analytical skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Yardi is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operating revenue and expense variance analysis
  • Reconciliation of balance sheet and general ledger accounts to supporting reports
  • Prepare Monthly bank reconciliations
  • Responsible for monthly payments for debt service, owner distribution calculations, etc.
  • Responsible for real estate tax and insurance payments, to avoid late payments and penalties
  • Post monthly accruals and work with Regional and Property managers for accuracy
  • Prepare replacement reserve filings
  • Maintain and update schedules for Equity
  • Facilitate the annual budget process by preparing supporting schedules and working with the site team
  • Assist the site team with budget re-forecast and cash re-forecasts
  • Answer audit questions and assist with preparing supporting schedules
  • Timely resolution of problems and issues
  • Ongoing communication with regional operational and site managers and third-party ownership as needed
  • Process improvement identification
  • Other tasks as assigned
