The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for effectively reviewing and computing, classifying, and recording numerical data to keep financial records complete which involves direct communication with all departments onsite and supporting community teams. The entrant will help train and develop the accounting team. Conducts all business in accordance with Company policies and procedures, Fair Housing, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and all other laws pertaining to apartments. Summary The Senior Project Accountant position is responsible for serving as a team leader in the Finance/Accounting department ensuring the department creates accurate and timely financial records for the organization.

Requirements

  • Effective reviewing and computing, classifying, and recording numerical data to keep financial records complete.
  • Direct communication with all departments onsite and supporting community teams.
  • Help train and develop the accounting team.
  • Conducts all business in accordance with Company policies and procedures, Fair Housing, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and all other laws pertaining to apartments.
  • Serving as a team leader in the Finance/Accounting department ensuring the department creates accurate and timely financial records for the organization.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge base on pricing methodology and trends across our company’s markets to analyze financial performance both currently and historically.
  • Ability to prepare and evaluate annual budgets for each community using historical data and economic trends.
  • Ability to maintain and coordinate accounting control procedures.
  • Ability to audit community expenditures and revenue for discrepancies, research and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire the professional growth of accounting team members through leadership and training.
  • Uphold the Company standards of professional appearance for all team members.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports, to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards defined within the company.
  • Assist with Preparation and Review of monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Process all tenant account adjustments in property management system originated by property management team.
  • Review tenant account adjustments and provide follow-up as needed.
  • Audit resident lease files for financial accuracy.
  • Review and maintain the general ledger for each property assigned which includes, but no limited to journal entries, reconciliations.
  • Communicate with onsite community teams to answer questions, provide support, and ensure timely and accurate accounting records and reports.
  • Review and assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Review and create and/or update weekly/monthly reports requested by leadership for financial analysis purposes for residential rental activities.
  • Assist with providing documentation for auditors during annual financial statement audits or any cost certifications required.
  • Acquires knowledge base on pricing methodology and trends across our company’s markets to analyze financial performance both currently and historically.
  • Actively prepares and evaluates annual budgets for each community using historical data and economic trends.
  • Maintains and coordinates accounting control procedures, makes recommendations to the Assistant Controller as needed.
  • Audits community expenditures and revenue for discrepancies, researches and resolves discrepancies as needed.
  • Motivates and inspires the professional growth of accounting team members through leadership and training.
  • Participate in the local apartment association, Company activities, and community networking.
  • Complete Company required continuing education and training courses.
  • Maintains resident confidentiality in adherence to all federal and local laws.
  • Uphold the Company standards of professional appearance for all team members.
