About The Position

Langan is seeking a Senior Project Manager – Traffic/Transportation Operations to join its transportation and infrastructure practice in Northern California. This individual will support a variety of traffic operations and transportation engineering projects, with a focus on improving system performance, safety, and multimodal mobility. This role offers the opportunity to work on a range of operational and infrastructure initiatives, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective and innovative transportation solutions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, project management experience, and a proactive, client-focused approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant transportation engineering and/or traffic operations experience.
  • Professional licensure (PE, TE, or similar) required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of traffic operations principles and methodologies.
  • Proven experience managing projects, budgets, and client relationships.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with traffic analysis tools and industry software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive project execution across traffic operations and transportation engineering initiatives through implementation, ensuring alignment with broader team objectives.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
  • Oversee and contribute to technical work related to: Traffic signal timing, coordination, and system optimization; Traffic Management Center (TMC) operations and corridor management; Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) planning and deployment; Signal system maintenance, asset management, and performance monitoring (SPM); Traffic operations studies, warrant analyses, and operational improvements; Traffic control plans and maintenance of traffic; Multimodal and Complete Streets initiatives, including traffic calming strategies.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, transportation agencies, contractors, and utility partners to support successful, on-time project delivery.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans; monitor progress and ensure quality outcomes.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and quality control for junior staff.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal preparation and client engagement.
