About The Position

We're looking for a Senior Transportation/Traffic Engineer to join our team in Richmond, VA; someone who's excited to lead traffic engineering design and analysis and active transportation projects that reflect our mission and values. Requirements

  • Licensed PE
  • 10+ years of experience developing traffic engineering design plans, operational and safety analyses, and/or design documents (signing and pavement marking, maintenance of traffic, traffic signals)
  • 2+ years project or design management
  • Experience developing conceptual designs for intersections and corridors
  • Proficient in one or more of the following: MicroStation OpenRoads, Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, MicroStation InRoads, AutoCAD, SIDRA, and/or VISSIM
  • Understanding of basic geometric design principles of roadways and industry roadway design standards
  • Understanding of MUTCD standards at the state and federal level
  • Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates
  • An interest in managing and mentoring staff

  • Experience with public agencies a plus (MDOT SHA, VDOT, DDOT, PennDOT)

Responsibilities

  • Lead creative, data-driven solutions to make streets safer
  • Designing traffic signal, pavement marking, signage, and traffic calming plans
  • Diving into traffic and safety studies
  • Supervising/mentoring junior staff
  • Conducting corridor studies
  • Working on Safe Routes to School projects
  • Turning ideas into action using tools like Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, MicroStation, and/or AutoCAD
  • Contributing to projects across the region and beyond
  • Helping shape safer, more sustainable multimodal infrastructure in diverse contexts
  • Growing as both an engineering leader and a trusted expert
