About The Position

The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Program Coordinator to join and support the Air Quality Team within the Metropolitan Planning & Analysis Division. This position will primarily under the direction of the Air Quality Program Manager and the Director of the Houston-Galveston Clean Cities Coalition to help to support, and at times lead, regional air quality efforts to partner with stakeholders and advance regional clean transportation initiatives, primarily through work with two H-GAC programs – the Houston-Galveston Clean Cities Coalition and the Clean Vehicles Program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, business, project management, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with government at all levels, nonprofits, or in positions similar duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, alternative fuels, zero-emission vehicle technologies, and related infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with the heavy-duty trucking and/or school bus transportation sectors
  • Project management experience bridging public and private sectors.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and innovative outreach strategies
  • Proficient multitasker able to manage long-term projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in grant research and successfully applying for grant funding.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and collaboration tools such as Asana.
  • Bilingual (English/Vietnamese or English/Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting activities related to the Houston-Galveston Clean Cities Coalition to help stakeholders understand, plan for, and deploy clean vehicle technologies that advance regional, state, and national air quality goals; enhance the nation’s energy security; and support economic prosperity.
  • Helping to support, and at times leading, efforts related to H-GAC’s vehicle replacement programs, including the Clean Vehicles Program, through the management of program applications, sub agreements, project documentation, site visits, and data reports, and other tasks.
  • Working collaboratively with local governments, transportation agencies, state and federal partners, community organizations, businesses, universities, and other regional stakeholders to advance practical strategies that improve air quality and support a healthier, more sustainable region
  • Building professional relationships across public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
  • Supporting the efforts of local, state, and federal agencies and stakeholders to improve air quality and transportation in the H-GAC service area.
  • Researching funding opportunities, preparing and submitting grant applications, and developing then implementing the resulting projects or programs.
