About The Position

The Senior Product Owner prioritizes and oversees development team work to maximize the value Humana derives from product outcomes. The role focuses on product feature quality and includes defining user stories, prioritizing the backlog, clarifying requirements, and maximizing the value delivered by the team. The Senior Product Owner works day to day with development teams and scrum masters, partners with Product Managers on backlog priorities and release planning, and collaborates with stakeholders to understand end-user needs and shape requirements. The role translates business priorities into user stories and acceptance criteria, manages delivery risks, validates product quality, and communicates the value of product functionality and sprint outcomes. The position may support multiple Agile Delivery Teams and cultivates relationships between business and IT partners. This is a remote role with occasional travel to Humana offices for training or meetings. Home or hybrid-home employees must have an internet connection with at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds and a dedicated workspace that protects member PHI/HIPAA information.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
At least 5 years of experience representing business or technology in technology implementations and/or product or project management.
Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, meeting facilitation, negotiation, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.
Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and project management skills.
Critical thinking skills, including anticipating team needs, taking initiative, presenting ideas, asking appropriate questions, and delivering high-quality work.
Ability to find viable solutions that meet business needs when ideal tools and resources are unavailable.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines.
Ability to work independently as a self-starter.
For home or hybrid-home work, self-provided internet service must provide at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds; a dedicated space without ongoing interruptions is required to protect member PHI/HIPAA information.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of quoting, rating, and underwriting.
Certified SAFe® Product Owner/Product Manager or equivalent.
Agile/Scrum certification, such as Agile Practitioner or Scrum Alliance.
Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Prior experience with Agile development processes and story writing.
Ability to work collaboratively with project stakeholders and remote teams at all organizational levels.
Knowledge of Systems Development Life Cycle, Waterfall, and/or Agile Development Methodologies.

Responsibilities

Interact day to day with the development team and scrum master.
Partner with the Product Manager to define and prioritize the product backlog based on the strategic product vision, roadmap, releases, and evolving business needs.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand end-user needs and pain points and shape requirements.
Understand customer needs and validate solutions developed by the delivery team.
Translate business priorities for technical team members by documenting user stories and acceptance criteria.
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks that could affect successful product delivery.
Confirm product quality and validate that it meets customer needs based on defined acceptance criteria.
Demonstrate and communicate the value of product functionality and sprint outcomes, either as needed or during PI planning.
Support multiple Agile Delivery Teams.
Cultivate relationships between business and IT partners to facilitate product development that provides high customer value.
