Senior Product Manager, Payments Gateway

Versapay
•$160,000 - $180,000•Remote

About The Position

As Senior Product Manager, Payments Gateway, you will own Versapay’s payment gateways—the platform through which Versapay payments flow from authorization to settlement. You will set the vision and roadmap for a modular, scalable, multi-tenant gateway connecting Versapay’s accounts receivable products to processors, acquirers, and card and bank networks. You will be accountable for product and business outcomes, including authorization and payment success rates, uptime, latency, downgrades, and transaction costs. This is a platform role serving Versapay product teams, processing partners, developers, ERP partners, and ledger and finance teams. You will partner with engineering on architecture and delivery, collaborate with go-to-market teams on positioning, and present gateway strategy and performance to senior leadership. The role is suited to a product leader who has built or scaled a payment gateway and is ready to grow and modernize a global B2B payments platform.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of payments or fintech product management experience, including at least 3 years owning a payment gateway, processing, orchestration, or PSP platform end to end.
  • Experience as a senior individual contributor who has driven a roadmap.
  • Experience building or significantly scaling a gateway and shipping gateway capabilities in production, rather than only integrating a third-party gateway.
  • Deep transaction lifecycle expertise, including authorization flows, ISO 8583 network messaging, tokenization, capture and settlement, chargebacks, interchange, and failover.
  • A demonstrated ability to measurably improve payment performance metrics such as authorization rates, processing cost, uptime, or latency, supported by data.
  • Global payments experience across North America and international markets, including multi-currency processing, local payment methods, and applicable regimes such as PCI DSS, PSD2/SCA, and card brand rules.
  • Experience leading engineering teams in execution as product owner, including setting priorities, removing blockers, making architectural trade-offs with engineering leadership, and delivering commitments.
  • Hands-on experience applying LLMs, ML, or agentic systems to payment workflows, and a clear, defensible perspective on appropriate and inappropriate uses of AI in a gateway.
  • Entrepreneurial, action-oriented builder mentality; comfort with ambiguity and enthusiasm for new initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Own the gateway strategy and roadmap, setting a multi-year vision across card, bank, and alternative payment methods in the markets Versapay serves, and balancing near-term improvements with long-term investments.
  • Drive payment performance and own core KPIs, including authorization and payment success rates, declines and retries, uptime, latency, and processing cost. Improve performance through connection optimization, failover, smart retries, network tokenization, account updater, 3DS and authentication flows, and B2B card data (Level 2/3).
  • Define the gateway’s APIs, SDKs, hosted payment pages, webhooks, and merchant and MID configuration so internal product teams and partners can launch payment experiences efficiently.
  • Lead evaluation, certification, and launch of processor and acquirer integrations and new network capabilities. Translate network specifications and mandates into requirements and maintain compliance with card brand rules, PCI DSS, and regional regulations.
  • Own the transaction lifecycle from authorization and capture through refunds, voids, disputes, chargebacks, and settlement, including accurate transaction-data handoffs to ledger and reconciliation. Partner with risk, compliance, and payment operations.
  • Lead engineering teams and oversee execution across pods, from requirements through success measurement. Make architecture, reliability, and platform-design trade-offs, remove blockers, and manage the SDLC.
  • Apply ML and agentic approaches to retry optimization, decline analysis, anomaly detection, incident triage, and partner integration support.
  • Serve as Versapay’s in-house authority on gateway architecture, payment processing, and network rules; educate product and engineering teams, brief executives, and represent the platform with partners and customers.
