Senior Product Engineer (Laravel - Remote)

Hospitable
$134,450 - $167,258Remote

About The Position

We build software for Airbnbs to rent themselves, with a state-of-the-art product and user experience. Hospitable.com is a remote-only and fully distributed company. We hire based on timezones, not countries. Our Core platform is comprised of properties, calendar, messaging, metrics, operations, and guest experience. The Growth component is about guiding our customers through sign-up, their first experiences with our platform, setting them up for success, helping them adopt our features and ultimately growing their own businesses with Hospitable. Our more than 22,000 customers rely on our core and connectivity product to manage $500M+ in monthly reservations. To help with maintaining and improving Hospitable’s core platform and growth strategies, our remote-first, fully-distributed team is looking for a Senior Product Engineer to maintain momentum and stability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend technologies.
  • Significant experience with Laravel, PHP 7+, MySQL, and testing pipelines in a deployed web application used by paying customers.
  • Hands-on with agentic coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot or similar) in a real production codebase, not just side projects.
  • An eye for testable, maintainable, and intuitive code.
  • The mentality of “Code is a means, not an end,” avoids unnecessary abstraction. Your compass points toward customer and business value.
  • The ability to think through non-obvious usage scenarios and explore ripple effects within complex systems.
  • High degree of empathy both toward customers and teammates.
  • Exceptional communication skills - especially written. We are a remote-first, fully distributed company. Most communication happens on Slack and Notion.
  • Self-motivated and able to make decisions when surrounded by uncertainty. You don’t require a support system to maintain momentum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with queue/job-centric backends is a plus.
  • Experience with building production systems where data ingestion from third-party APIs is critical to the business is a big plus.

Responsibilities

  • Diving deep into our foundational codebase to develop new features, maintain existing features, and build product workflows that help our customers grow.
  • Adding voice to product shaping discussions, shipping new core platform features 0→1, and iterating based on customer feedback.
  • Building magical user experiences that are both simple for customers to use and simple for other engineers to understand and maintain.
  • Partnering with product, sales, customer success, and other engineers to develop and ship features that solve the right problems.
  • Working within our monolithic codebase, sitting on a Kubernetes-powered infrastructure-as-code stack.
  • Implementing and using observability tooling to track and debug post-deployment.
  • Seeking out and remedying performance/resource issues and feature bugs that have the most impact on business operations and customer experience.
  • Refactoring core platform code to make it easier to understand, maintain, and test.

Benefits

  • Options into the company equity through our $HOST token (RSU's).
  • Performance Share Units (PSUs).
  • Healthcare (including EPO, PPO and HSA) for US employees.
  • 401(k) for US employees.
  • 35 days off per year, encouraged (including self-serve public holidays).
  • Parental leave.
  • Complimentary mental health and emotional support with therapists on call through Slack by Spill.
  • Earn virtual coins through our peer recognition platform and redeem them through gift cards, donations, or monetary rewards.
