Senior Product Engineer

ZipLiens•Franklin, TN
•$126,000 - $171,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Zipliens is a lien resolution company that streamlines the lien process for personal injury law firms. The Senior Product Engineer owns technically complex product initiatives from problem definition through release, combining product-owner accountability for outcomes and scope with the engineering depth to design and build solutions. The role is part of the product team and reports to the CTO, who sets priorities and assigns initiatives alongside the product owner. The position focuses on work where a product-to-engineering handoff would lose important context, including complex workflow-driven features, rapid prototyping, AI integrations, and user-interface overhauls that require deep knowledge of the application. The engineer takes ambiguous problems from discovery through release and post-launch improvement. They work within the engineering team's platform, frameworks, components, security, performance, and delivery standards, building usable features rather than redefining the platform. The role involves collaborating with users and business teams, setting scope and success measures, and partnering with engineers, product design, customer success, and marketing. This role requires working on-site at least three days per week (60%) at the Franklin, Tennessee office. The annual base salary range is $126,000–$171,000, with an opportunity for a quarterly discretionary bonus. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored visa support.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including meaningful experience building user-facing applications; frontend, full-stack, or UI engineering backgrounds are a strong fit.
  • Demonstrated ownership of features or projects from concept to production, beyond executing predefined tickets.
  • Experience working directly with users or business stakeholders to define requirements and maintain those relationships through delivery.
  • Strong understanding of application design, including data models, state management, business logic, APIs, and frontend/backend integration.
  • Product judgment, including asking why before how, identifying mismatches between requirements and user problems, and making scope tradeoffs to deliver value.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiences, including explaining engineering complexity in plain language.
  • Hands-on experience with a modern web stack; Python/Django and a modern JavaScript framework are preferred.
  • Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features, including prompt design, structured outputs, evaluation, or document processing.
  • Familiarity with product analytics tools such as PostHog, project tracking tools such as Jira/Confluence, and cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Ability to work on-site at least three days per week (60%) in the Franklin, TN office.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without the need for employer-sponsored visa support now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a product owner, product manager, or technical lead capacity.
  • Background in workflow-heavy B2B software, legal tech, healthcare, insurance, or claims processing.
  • Experience integrating with third-party platforms such as Salesforce or legal case management systems such as Filevine.

Responsibilities

  • Take high-ambiguity initiatives from discovery through release, including scoping, technical design, implementation, QA coordination, rollout, handoff to customer success and marketing, and post-launch iteration.
  • Turn early ideas into working prototypes, test them with real users, and develop promising concepts through beta to full release.
  • Define acceptance criteria and success metrics, instrument features with product analytics, and use results to guide improvements.
  • Design and deliver complex, user-facing workflow features involving state, rules, and edge cases, such as lien intake, case status progression, negotiation tracking, and approval flows.
  • Identify opportunities for AI to reduce manual work and deliver reliable production-grade features with appropriate human review and fallbacks.
  • Improve confusing or outdated screens in partnership with product design, using the established design system and component framework.
  • Build features hands-on within the engineering team's frameworks and standards; involve engineers in larger efforts such as significant backend changes and participate in architectural decisions.
  • Work directly with lien negotiators, customer success, support, and law firm users to understand problems and make informed scope, complexity, and timeline tradeoffs.
  • Bring user data and findings into roadmap and prioritization discussions.
  • Model a fast, pragmatic, user-centered approach to delivery and share learnings with product and engineering teams.
