Senior Product Engineer

About The Position

Zipliens is a lien resolution company that streamlines the lien process for personal injury law firms. The Senior Product Engineer owns technically complex product initiatives from problem definition through release, combining product ownership of outcomes and scope with the engineering ability to design and build much of the solution. This role is distinct from a traditional product owner or engineering role: Product Engineers build usable features on the engineering team's platform, frameworks, components, security, performance, and delivery standards. The role takes ambiguous problems from early discovery and prototyping through beta, full release, and post-launch iteration. It involves understanding users and the domain, making decisions about application logic and data flow, and delivering workflow-driven features, rapid prototypes, AI integrations, and UI improvements. The position sits on the product team and reports to the CTO, who currently sets priorities and assigns initiatives across this role and the product owner.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including meaningful experience building user-facing applications; frontend, full-stack, or UI engineering backgrounds are a strong fit.
  • Demonstrated ownership of features or projects from concept to production beyond executing predefined tickets.
  • Experience working directly with users or business stakeholders to define requirements and maintain those relationships through delivery.
  • Strong understanding of application design, including data models, state management, business logic, APIs, and frontend/backend integration.
  • Product instincts, including asking why before how, recognizing when requirements do not address users' actual problems, and cutting scope when needed to deliver value.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiences, including explaining engineering complexity in plain language.
  • Hands-on experience with a modern web stack; Python/Django and a modern JavaScript framework are preferred.
  • Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features, including prompt design, structured outputs, evaluation, or document processing.
  • Familiarity with product analytics tools such as PostHog, project tracking tools such as Jira/Confluence, and cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Ability to work on-site at least three days per week (60%) in the Franklin, Tennessee office.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa support now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a product owner, product manager, or technical lead capacity.
  • Background in workflow-heavy B2B software, legal tech, healthcare, insurance, or claims processing.
  • Experience integrating with third-party platforms such as Salesforce or legal case management systems such as Filevine.

Responsibilities

  • Take high-ambiguity product initiatives from discovery through release, including scoping, technical design, implementation, QA coordination, rollout, handoff to customer success and marketing, and post-launch iteration.
  • Turn early ideas into working prototypes, test them with real users, and advance promising solutions through beta to full release.
  • Set acceptance criteria and success metrics, instrument features with product analytics, and use data to guide improvements.
  • Design and deliver complex, user-facing, multi-step workflow features involving state, rules, and edge cases.
  • Identify opportunities for AI to reduce manual work and deliver reliable production-grade features with appropriate human review and fallbacks.
  • Improve confusing or outdated screens in partnership with product design, using the established design system and component framework.
  • Build features hands-on within the engineering team's frameworks and standards; bring in engineers for larger work and participate in architectural decisions.
  • Work directly with lien negotiators, customer success, support, and law firm users to understand problems and make informed scope, complexity, and timeline tradeoffs.
  • Bring user data and findings into roadmap and prioritization discussions.
  • Model a fast, pragmatic, user-centered delivery approach and share learnings with product and engineering teams.

  • Private health care plan including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Company HSA contributions for HDHP participants.
