About The Position

Replika is seeking a senior engineer to build across its iOS, Android, and backend product. The role joins a tiny team where two engineers currently handle app work and will work directly with the CEO, product manager, designer, and engineering lead. The engineer will own features end to end, from shaping ideas to shipping them, and contribute to both product and monetization features. The position calls for moving quickly when appropriate, thinking carefully through complex problems, and ensuring rough early work becomes a polished final product. The engineer will help build a consumer AI product intended to support users’ real-life flourishing and relationships. The role involves turning ambiguous ideas into concrete features, exercising product judgment, pushing back on weak specifications, and collaborating closely rather than working in a silo.

Requirements

At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
Experience building and shipping consumer mobile apps used by real users.
Native depth on either iOS using Swift or Android using Kotlin, plus experience shipping features on the other platform.
Willingness and ability to work on backend development; API design and implementation skills.
Track record of driving complex features end to end, beyond incremental improvements and refactors.
Enjoys coding and agentic engineering, and uses available tools to work faster.
Design intuition and product taste, including the ability to recognize when an experience feels wrong.
Ability to shape what gets built and implement it personally.
Fluent English, with the ability to write or critique specifications clearly.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a founding engineer or as an early employee who built products from zero.
Backend experience in Python, including FastAPI, or a JVM language such as Scala.
Experience with in-app purchases and subscriptions on the App Store and Google Play.
Experience building real-time features such as chat, voice, or animation.
Experience shipping consumer products that had a meaningful impact on many users.
Experience running A/B tests and using product analytics to inform product decisions.

Responsibilities

Own features end to end across iOS, Android, and backend, from idea through delivery to users.
Build product features, including avatars and new ways for users to spend time with Replika.
Build in-app monetization features such as paywalls, offers, and pricing tests in collaboration with the growth team.
Turn ambiguous ideas into concrete work without waiting for every question to be answered.
Challenge specifications that do not hold up and advocate for stronger alternatives.
Communicate and collaborate with teammates to unblock work.
