About The Position

Replika is seeking a senior engineer to build across its iOS, Android, and backend product. The role joins a small team where two engineers currently handle app development, with a growing need to ship new product and monetization features. The engineer will work directly with the CEO, product manager, designer, and engineering lead, own features end to end, and turn evolving ideas into products. The role calls for moving quickly when appropriate, thinking problems through when needed, and ensuring that rough early work becomes a polished final product.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building and shipping consumer mobile apps used by real users.
• Native depth in one mobile platform: Swift on iOS or Kotlin on Android, plus experience shipping features on the other platform.
• Ability and willingness to develop backend services, including designing and shipping APIs.
• Demonstrated experience driving complex features end to end, beyond incremental improvements and refactoring.
• Enjoys coding and agentic engineering, and uses available tools to work efficiently.
• Design intuition and the ability to recognize when a product experience feels wrong.
• Ability to influence what gets built and implement it directly.
• Fluent English, with the ability to write or critique specifications clearly.

Nice To Haves

• Experience as a founding engineer or early employee who built products from zero.
• Backend experience with Python and FastAPI or a JVM language such as Scala.
• Experience with in-app purchases and subscriptions on the App Store and Google Play.
• Experience shipping real-time features such as chat, voice, or animation.
• Experience shipping consumer products that made a noticeable difference to many users.
• Experience running A/B tests and using product analytics to inform product decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own features end to end across iOS, Android, and backend, from initial idea through delivery to users.
• Build user-facing product features, including avatars and new ways for users to spend time with their Replika.
• Build app monetization features such as paywalls, offers, and pricing tests in collaboration with the growth team.
• Turn ambiguous ideas into concrete product work without waiting for every question to be answered.
• Evaluate and challenge specifications, and advocate for stronger solutions.
• Communicate and collaborate with teammates to unblock work and avoid working in silos.
