About The Position

Baker Hughes is a leading global energy technology company that provides innovative solutions to make energy safer, cleaner, and more efficient. The Senior Product Development Engineer will lead the technical aspects of New Product Development (NPD) and New Technology Development (NTD) projects, from initial concept and design through validation, certification, and industrialization. This role involves defining critical-to-quality requirements early in the project, collaborating cross-functionally to meet these needs, and conducting thorough Design Reviews with Technical Title Holders (TTH) and experts. The engineer will also be responsible for creating and maintaining a repository of technical project documents, including 3D models, 2D drawings, engineering guidelines, assembly instructions, interchangeability charts, and certified prints. The position requires a recognized expert in safety and pressure relief valves, with a proven track record in valve design, and may involve participation in industrial committees. Additionally, the role includes mentoring and guiding engineering personnel and disseminating lessons learned across the organization.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Core Design Engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design concepts.
  • Advanced knowledge in Fluid Dynamics.
  • Working knowledge in FEA/CFD, ideally in Solid Works/ANSYS.
  • Strong material knowledge in valve & material applications, selections (typically used in O&G, Refinery & Power sectors), ASTM material grades & testing.
  • Experience in the Pressure Safety valve industry with strong knowledge of PSV related codes (ASME, API, EN, ...).
  • Prior experience in New Product Design.
  • Prior experience working in multidisciplinary teams across regions and time zones.
  • Current work authorization in the country of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Clarifying project input and ensuring alignment with needs and product development goals.
  • Organizing technical activities on projects and validating schedules against specifications.
  • Writing the Product Technical Specification (PTS) to translate customer needs into technical requirements.
  • Performing product design and creating models.
  • Completing associated calculation notes, CFD, and FEA to validate designs.
  • Managing subcontracting of engineering activities when necessary.
  • Writing all technical documents required for the implementation of new products in selection and calculation software.
  • Writing all technical documents associated with the product.
  • Coordinating technical meetings with other company departments (sourcing, manufacturing, advanced manufacturing engineering).
  • Implementing design review sessions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Actively participating in risk identification and mitigation.
  • Completing Functional Analysis and associated FMEA for new designs.
  • Incorporating DF(X) into designs.
  • Defining design rules and improving existing processes.
  • Carrying out technical training for new products for all company services.
  • Working with the testing laboratory to set up prototype tests.
  • Analyzing and interpreting prototype test results with laboratory teams.
  • Preparing and supporting invention disclosures to protect company technology and intellectual property.
  • Being a recognized expert for safety and pressure relief valves.
  • Mentoring and guiding new and experienced engineering personnel.
  • Disseminating lessons learned across the engineering organization.
