About The Position

Scribd, Inc. is seeking a Senior Product Designer to drive growth across Everand and Fable, which are central to the company's Premium business and reach over 1.4 million readers monthly. This role involves designing the user journey from a curious reader to an engaged community member, a free user to a long-term subscriber, and a casual subscriber to a loyal user. The designer will collaborate closely with Product, Research, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to identify opportunities, conduct experiments, and deliver impactful work. This position offers the opportunity to lead vision and strategy for growth and lifecycle, requiring a proactive individual who can advocate for their perspective. The role reports to the Director of Product Design and works with a team of six Premium product and brand designers. Ideal candidates will have a passion for books, attention to detail in user experience, and an enthusiasm for data-driven results.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product design experience.
  • Significant experience in growth, monetization, or subscription products.
  • Strong visual craft and interaction design skills.
  • Proven ability to ship experiments that positively impacted conversion, activation, retention, and/or revenue, with an understanding of the reasons for success.
  • Ability to think in terms of user journeys rather than isolated screens and to define clear paths forward in ambiguous situations.
  • Proficiency in using AI daily for exploration, prototyping, and understanding, holding AI-generated output to a high standard.
  • Passion for reading and informed opinions on how and why people discover, share, and engage with books.
  • Ability to articulate design decisions using both data and aesthetic judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Design the growth journey, focusing on moments that convert readers into subscribers, including onboarding, plans and pricing, referrals, and lifecycle management.
  • Identify natural connections between Fable's community features and Everand's library.
  • Propose and scope experiments in collaboration with Product Managers, defining success metrics.
  • Take ownership of projects from initial concept to production-ready delivery, ensuring high craft and attention to detail.
  • Apply a strong visual identity to two distinct brands and develop new design patterns when existing systems are insufficient.
  • Utilize prototyping, including code when appropriate, and AI tools for idea exploration and validation through usability testing.
  • Analyze release results to identify areas for improvement and propose next steps, grounding decisions in research, competitive insights, and user behavior.
  • Share work frequently and provide constructive feedback to fellow designers to enhance their craft.
