About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking a Senior Principal Optical Engineer to join its EO/IR Capability Group, a multidisciplinary team of optical, electro-optical, opto-mechanical, and laser specialists. The role develops and matures advanced EO/IR system concepts supporting next-generation precision pointers, laser systems, imaging systems, and other complex EO/IR systems. The engineer designs, analyzes, and measures optical subsystems, and integrates, tests, and validates optical assemblies and subsystems. The role involves working in a fast-paced environment with technical challenges and growth opportunities, collaborating across disciplines, presenting program work to customers, and contributing to proposals. The position is hybrid, with onsite work three days per week.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering or a related technical field.
At least 10 years of experience designing complex optical subassemblies and systems.
Experience in optical laboratories, including test setup and data analysis.
Experience in optical system-level performance modeling.
Broad understanding of EO/IR systems.

Nice To Haves

Currently possess an active Secret clearance.
Ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

Perform optical metrology for optical subassemblies.
Lead optical integration and testing.
Develop toward an optical lead role.
Design and develop optical system architectures and specifications for EO/IR technology.
Predict and perform performance analysis and design verification.
Perform system modeling and system data analysis to understand overall optical-system performance.
Work independently and collaboratively.
Contribute to program success.
Present current program work to customers and contribute to proposals for new projects.
Integrate, test, and validate optical assemblies and subsystems.
