About The Position

As an optical engineer at BAE Systems, you will help advance technology and develop innovative optical systems for airborne and space-based applications. The Engineering, Science and Analysis Strategic Capabilities Unit brings together technical talent and organizational leadership to deliver high-impact technologies for customer missions. Its collaborative, cross-functional teams emphasize innovation, integrity, continual learning, and strong execution. The role involves designing, developing, aligning, integrating, and testing optical systems for science, defense, intelligence, and commercial customers. You will work hands-on with optical hardware, perform analytical work, support technology development, and procure and validate optical components. You may lead or participate in optical subsystem development and collaborate with engineers across disciplines. The position also contributes to design reviews, proposal development, responses to RFIs, and white papers. This position requires regular onsite engagement at the primary work location at least three days during each normally scheduled week. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or a remote research environment. Occasional work in production areas may require protective equipment, and accessing other facilities in varying weather conditions may be necessary.
