Senior Platform Software Engineer

ComPsych Corporation•,
•$150,000 - $200,000

About The Position

ComPsych is modernizing the software foundations behind its products by building shared backend capabilities, cloud-native services, and AWS infrastructure that application teams can rely on. The role focuses on making secure, reliable, high-quality software easier to build and operate at scale. Engineers use agentic AI as a standard development method while ensuring work remains reviewable and maintainable. The platform supports behavioral health data for millions of members, making reliability and correctness essential. The engineer is accountable for the full software lifecycle, including planning, design, implementation, testing, review, and production operations. They will own the architecture and delivery of reusable platform services, build software abstractions and automation for AWS, direct AI agents through clear specifications and contracts, and apply human judgment where needed. They will also establish testing, security, reliability, observability, and deployment practices; review agent and human contributions; respond to incidents; and help consuming teams adopt and operate shared capabilities.

Requirements

  • Deep server-side engineering experience in Java, Python, C#, Kotlin, or Go, including designing and operating backend systems and building reusable components used by other engineers.
  • Strong distributed systems fundamentals, including API and event contracts, asynchronous messaging, concurrency, idempotency, consistency, failure handling, and versioning across independently deployed services.
  • Hands-on experience designing and operating production workloads on AWS, including compute, networking, storage, databases, messaging, IAM, and managed-service tradeoffs.
  • Experience with containers, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD.
  • Experience building shared backend foundations such as service frameworks, common libraries, authentication and authorization, or integration layers, with attention to compatibility, configuration, documentation, and adoption.
  • Production reliability and security engineering experience, including observability, SLOs, incident response, resilient architectures, and secure handling of sensitive or regulated data.
  • Ability to develop a testing strategy for shared platform software using unit, integration, contract, and compatibility testing, with reliable CI feedback and confidence that changes will not break downstream consumers.
  • Agentic AI is the primary development surface: ability to specify complex platform work, direct agents to implement it, verify correctness across integrations, edge cases, and operational behavior, and identify where human judgment is essential.
  • Experience shipping production software using agentic AI.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build reusable backend platform services, libraries, frameworks, and integrations with clear interfaces, failure modes, and operational contracts.
  • Build application-level abstractions, automation, and integration patterns that enable secure and reliable use of AWS services.
  • Decompose platform work, write specifications and contracts, delegate implementation to AI agents, and contribute directly to code when complexity or technical judgment requires it.
  • Design platform software for multiple consumers, backward compatibility, safe migrations, and verifiable behavior.
  • Own testing strategy and validate that generated tests provide meaningful evidence.
  • Establish platform defaults for authentication, authorization, failure handling, telemetry, and deployment safety.
  • Review agent and human work, respond to incidents, and work with consuming teams to support adoption and operation of shared capabilities.
  • Own the software lifecycle from planning and design through coding, testing, review, and production.
