Senior Platform Engineer

SumUpBoulder, CO
$160,000 - $185,000Onsite

About The Position

The US Platform team is the engineering backbone that keeps SumUp's product teams moving. We build and maintain the cloud infrastructure, tooling, and developer environments that hundreds of engineers across the US depend on every day. As we grow, we're making a deliberate investment in senior expertise to raise the bar on how we build, standardize, and connect our platform work globally. This is a pivotal role at the intersection of infrastructure and developer experience. You'll be the primary technical bridge between our US Platform team and our global Platform Infrastructure organization, ensuring both move in the same direction with shared standards, a unified codebase, and a clear roadmap. If you're energized by making complex systems simpler for the people who build on them, this is the role for you.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in platform, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering at a senior level in complex, distributed environments (~8+ years)
  • Deep expertise in AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, EKS) and advanced Kubernetes, including cluster design, multi-tenant management, and upgrade strategies
  • Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or CloudFormation at scale) and CI/CD design using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or ArgoCD
  • Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio preferred), observability platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch), and proficiency in Go, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Comfort working across globally distributed teams, with the communication skills to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders and the mindset to thrive in async, cross-timezone environments

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement infrastructure-as-code solutions, driving automation of manual processes and improving deployment speed and reliability across the US engineering organization
  • Act as the technical connector between the US Platform team and the global Platform Infrastructure team, establishing shared standards, runbooks, and a joint technical roadmap
  • Improve our monitoring, observability, and incident response processes, including cross-timezone on-call coordination and post-mortem practices
  • Build internal tooling and self-service capabilities that help product engineering teams deploy, monitor, and scale services independently
  • Lead the migration of US infrastructure into a unified, cohesive platform, treating our internal platform surfaces with the same intentionality we bring to customer-facing products
