Senior Platform Engineer

Loop•Columbus, OH

About The Position

Loop is hiring a hands-on Senior Platform Engineer to improve the foundation that enables its engineers to deliver software quickly, reliably, and confidently. This individual-contributor role will contribute to technical direction while building infrastructure, improving delivery workflows, investigating production behavior, and helping engineers operate more independently. The role also includes shaping how engineers and AI agents work effectively in Loop’s engineering environment. The immediate priorities are developer self-service, safer releases, and reducing operational toil. The engineer will identify complexity and manual work that slow teams down, then build practical improvements. Most time will be spent on technical work, with coaching, collaboration, and technical leadership integrated into delivery. Loop’s environment includes AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Datadog, Linux, PHP/Laravel, and data and workflow systems; experience with every tool is not required. Success includes developing a clear understanding of the environment, earning trust across engineering, and delivering an evidence-backed plan alongside useful early improvements. Over time, routine infrastructure and delivery tasks should become more self-service, releases easier to verify and recover from, and engineers less dependent on access requests, coordination, and manual intervention. Operational noise and recurring incidents should decrease, platform knowledge should be shared more broadly, and agent-assisted workflows should produce better results with appropriate checks and human accountability.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or related infrastructure work, or equivalent demonstrated depth.
  • Deep, hands-on Kubernetes experience, including configuration, secrets, deployment, scaling, and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience building and operating AWS infrastructure for production systems with meaningful traffic and availability requirements.
  • Strong infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD experience, including Terraform and GitLab CI or comparable tools.
  • An observability mindset and experience using metrics, logs, traces, and alerting to understand system behavior.
  • Ability to write, read, debug, and maintain automation and tooling, and investigate problems across application and infrastructure boundaries.
  • Examples of making delivery safer, reducing operational toil, or enabling engineers to work independently.
  • Clear written communication and experience leading technical work across teams without relying on formal authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud security, least-privilege access, secrets management, SOC 2, or GDPR.
  • Application performance tuning experience.
  • PHP/Laravel experience.
  • Database operations experience.
  • Experience with infrastructure for AI agents.

Responsibilities

  • Build self-service workflows that let engineers provision infrastructure, ship services, and recover from failures independently.
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment checks, progressive delivery, and automated rollback to make releases safer and reduce coordination and manual work.
  • Simplify AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure, prioritize improvements, and balance reliability, security, cost, and upkeep.
  • Make production changes safer and easier to recover from.
  • Strengthen observability, alerting, SLOs, and capacity planning; use incidents and support trends to determine what to address.
  • Improve tooling, environments, reusable context, and access boundaries for effective agent-assisted engineering, partnering with security colleagues to control permissions, secrets, and consequential actions.
  • Work with product and data engineers to investigate performance and reliability issues across application code, containers, databases, networking, and cloud services.
  • Share technical thinking, document decisions, and coach teammates so systems are understandable to others.
  • Participate in platform on-call and incident response, and reduce the frequency and impact of interruptions.
  • Lead technical work across teams and help engineers work more independently.
