Senior Platform Engineer

Endor Labs•Palo Alto, CA

About The Position

Endor Labs is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to build and operate the data and cloud infrastructure behind its software security platform. The role owns MongoDB and BigQuery operations from initial design and provisioning through monitoring, performance tuning, access management, and incident response. It includes scaling MongoDB through sharding strategies and improving observability across the infrastructure. The engineer will design, deploy, and operate infrastructure on Azure and Google Cloud that processes billions of security events daily. They will work with Kubernetes and the CNCF ecosystem, help architect multi-tenant clusters, and advance infrastructure as code using Terraform or OpenTofu and GitOps workflows. The role partners with Security, Backend, and Product Engineering, shipping infrastructure improvements regularly while balancing speed and reliability.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of production MongoDB operations experience, including MongoDB Atlas, sharding, replica set design, index strategy, backup and restore, and lifecycle operations.
  • Experience redesigning a shard key, rebalancing chunks, or changing zone placement on a MongoDB cluster that outgrew its original design, with understanding of the tradeoffs.
  • At least 5 years of Site Reliability Engineering or Platform Engineering experience building and operating production infrastructure.
  • On-call experience and experience resolving critical incidents.
  • Production hands-on experience with Kubernetes and the CNCF ecosystem, including debugging multi-cluster networking issues.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud provider: Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS, in that order of preference.
  • Experience managing infrastructure with Terraform, OpenTofu, or Terragrunt, including reusable modules and state management at scale.
  • Hands-on experience with Prometheus and Grafana, including designing SLIs/SLOs and dashboards for distributed systems.
  • Ability to explain complex technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences and document decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MongoDB Atlas capabilities such as Atlas Search, Provisioned Throughput, and the Atlas Admin API, or building custom tooling to address gaps in native platform monitoring.
  • Familiarity managing infrastructure for large monorepos, including build optimization and caching strategies; experience with Bazel, Nx, or similar tooling is a bonus.
  • Hands-on experience implementing GitOps workflows with ArgoCD or Flux.
  • Experience building secure infrastructure and understanding compliance requirements such as SOC 2 and GDPR while maintaining developer velocity.
  • A track record of optimizing infrastructure costs and performance.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipelines and familiarity with Bazel for monorepo builds.

Responsibilities

  • Own MongoDB and BigQuery operations, including initial design and provisioning, monitoring, performance tuning, access management, and incident response.
  • Design and execute MongoDB sharding strategies, including shard key selection, zone-based placement, and chunk rebalancing.
  • Add metrics, logging, and tracing across infrastructure, including MongoDB and BigQuery.
  • Design, deploy, and operate Azure and Google Cloud infrastructure processing billions of security events daily.
  • Operate resilient, self-healing infrastructure using Kubernetes and ArgoCD, and help architect multi-tenant clusters that isolate customer workloads.
  • Build and maintain Terraform/OpenTofu modules for safe, consistent provisioning through GitOps workflows.
  • Partner with Security, Backend, and Product Engineering to ensure the platform data layer keeps pace with the product.
  • Ship infrastructure improvements weekly while balancing speed and reliability.
