Senior Platform Engineer

Turnkey

About The Position

Turnkey is building infrastructure for an autonomous economy, with programmable guardrails intended to enable autonomy without sacrificing control. The Senior Platform Engineer will join a small platform team that works across nearly every engineering team at Turnkey. The role helps the organization build faster, scale with confidence, and make better decisions through tooling, engineering practices, and resolving systemic problems before they become incidents. The engineer will work independently across product and infrastructure teams on scaling and performance. They will gather requirements and constraints from teams and turn them into shared solutions. This role is suited to someone with experience navigating the challenges systems encounter as they grow and who is comfortable working outside their own domain to solve cross-team problems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or SRE, with substantial distributed systems experience.
  • Experience designing, building, scaling, and operating robust, reliable distributed systems in production.
  • Working experience with Golang, AWS, Postgres, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience building performance and observability tooling, such as metrics, tracing, profiling, logging, or alerting.
  • A data-driven approach: ability to define metrics, instrument systems, and explain how a system or team moved from one state to another.
  • A record of leveling up teams beyond one's own through tooling, practices, or decision-making habits.
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to understand how other teams work and what they need.

Nice To Haves

  • Infrastructure-as-code experience, such as Terraform or similar.
  • Experience in security-sensitive or high-assurance environments, such as TEEs, secure enclaves, key management, or regulated infrastructure.
  • Fluency in Go.
  • Experience with incident management and post-incident learning programs.
  • Open source contributions or public technical writing.

Responsibilities

  • Build tooling for performance analysis and observability so teams can understand system behavior and make data-driven decisions.
  • Partner with product, infrastructure, and security teams to understand requirements and constraints, communicate technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders, and establish shared priorities for cross-team solutions.
  • Identify systemic issues across infrastructure and product and drive them to resolution.
  • Anticipate scaling bottlenecks and scale systems before they become incidents.
  • Introduce tooling and practices that help other teams build habits around measurement, SLOs, and data-driven decisions.
  • Translate technical tradeoffs for non-technical stakeholders and build shared understanding of priorities.
  • Raise the technical bar through design reviews, documentation, and mentorship.

Benefits

  • Full benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA/FSA, and 401(k).
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Unlimited PTO.
  • $3,000 per year learning and development budget to attend industry conferences.
  • Multiple team offsites per year.
  • Lunch stipend.
