About The Position

This position involves working within the Department of Children, Youth and Families, specifically reviewing facilities licensed by the department, including the RI Training School. The role requires conducting comprehensive investigations, providing recommendations to ensure the safety and well-being of children in state care, and monitoring an assigned caseload of youth in voluntary placement. The specialist will also be responsible for producing quality written reports for site reviews, investigations, and other related duties.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or a closely related field and five (5) years of direct care experience with children and/or adolescents; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a closely related field and eight (8) years of direct care experience with children and/or adolescents.
  • Any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • BCI check required.
  • CANTS check required.
  • Ability to provide polished work product on an ongoing basis.
  • Interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to collaborate with a diverse population and a variety of organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate DCYF licensed facilities to ensure compliance with licensing regulations and author corresponding reports and recommendations.
  • Conduct investigations, make appropriate recommendations and author corresponding reports to ensure the safety and well-being of children in state care and to ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Monitor a caseload of assigned youth in voluntary placement, ensuring the appropriate provision of services; attend meetings and court hearings on behalf of the youth; provide written updates and reports for the Family Court as needed; visit with the youth on a regular basis.
  • Record and track incoming inquiries and resolve assigned matters.
  • Assist the office with both initial and comprehensive reviews of child fatalities or near fatalities.
  • Monitor the RI Training School on an ongoing basis and provide reports on a weekly basis.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and provide updates on pending assignments.
  • Review CPS call logs and reports, daily and take appropriate action when necessary.
  • Collect and track assigned internal and external data and report statistics on an ongoing basis.
  • Attend committee meetings and other meetings as assigned.
  • Assist the office with ongoing legislative and procedural initiatives through data analysis and/or providing testimony.
  • Track legislative policies relevant to the work of the office.
